A couple days ago I posted a question regarding the stock ST stereo wattage RMS output. I received replies but nothing definate. I installed some Infinity Reference speakers in all doors that are rated @ 60w with 180w max input. The stock 2005 6 disc Pioneer doens't do them justice, volume wise.

I considered the Adrenalin HU as a replacement since reading that it was 510w total output. I just don't know if that output comes from an internal or external amp. If internal, I believe it would be a good replacement without spending $500 plus for an internal amped aftermarket. If it turns out to be externally amped, I figure I may as well just get an amp for my stock stereo and be done with it. After a couple days searching, I have yet to find anymore info on it.

At present, there is one on ebay that I questioned the seller about. Just for curiousity sake because it is WAY over priced IMHO (start bid $275 + ship). She didn't know anything about it. Even though her ad leads one to believe that it came out of her truck, it just isn't so. Looking through her feedbak, I saw that she purchased it off of ebay just a couple ago for $304 + shipping. So now it's not only the price that turns me off but the circumstance also. eaby item #150105649317. ( From Long Island, not you Todd is it?)

Anyway, I did find the below link on Ford's site and I'm having a hard time believing it. It states that the optional stock 6 disc Pioneer puts out 290 w, which I'm guessing is max (not RMS). Since the subwoofer has it's own amp, this would mean 70w+ x 4 output.

So, it looks as though I either need to find a reasonable price on an Adrenalin HU or amp the stock stereo to at least 100w to see any noted improvement in volume.

Just thought someone on board might find this info useful and maybe, just maybe, someone would know whether or not the Adrenalin HU is internally or externally amped.

HU internal amps do not go past 50 watts and those are 50 crappy watts. Look at the size of a HU and a 200 watt amp.

I would just buy an aftermarket amp and be done with it.

the adrenalin HU i had in my truck came and non-amped. the amp in the rear of the truck is 510watts but it is hooked up to the subwoofer as well as all of the door speakers. you'd have better luck just purchasing a good aftermarket HU b/c you'll get more of what your looking for

Thanks for the reply shvdnlayd. First "first hand" info I've been induldged with regarding the Adrenalin HU.

I'll now consider it to be externally amped and proceed with adding an external to my stock HU.

BTW...I've been intrigued with your board name for awhile now. Always figured you to be a Lady by the name outright. Now that I've had time to to stop and look, I see it isn't so. Not that it's a bad thing, I just now know that you are NOT a shaved lady (LOL). Damn the luck!!

Sorry if this offends anyone...

ha lol yeah, i've used this name b/c i have 2 things going for me... 1 my ranger is shaved and laid, 2 with the head shaved, it gets me laid lol haha

but back to post, yeah, i wouldn't bother upgrading to the adrenalin HU, just for fact it does have 6 disc mp3 player. its not super great. just be cheaper to get an aftermarket HU, or just upgrade to an amp and run that to the factory HU. i got rid of adrenalin HU as soon as i upgraded to the Alpine IVA-310.... still might sell it. but not sure yet.

Dave, not too long ago I decided to replace my Audiophile HU with an Adrenalin HU to get MP3 capability. A fellow member ("LB") gave me a good deal on one but I soon discovered that it would not give power to my existing speakers and sub/amp since the Adrenalin HU did not come with an internal amp (as shvdnlayd mentioned above). I ended up overhauling my audio system with new Alpine door speakers and amps, as well as a 8" RFosgate sub mounted in a JDBox. Everything sounds great with very satisfying bass from the JDBox (great customer service too).

The one gripe I have with the Adrenalin unit is that it doesn't display song titles playing on the radio like the Audiophile HU did. Otherwise it's great, fits perfectly, and still looks stock!

Thanks to all who answered my question. I took appropriate action and bought a Kenwood amp to compliment the OEM HU.

When money becomes available, I'll update with an aftermarket touch screen DVD / Nav unit. Until then I believe I'll be content with this setup.

Again, Thanks...

I bought a Kenwood KAC8403. 4 x 60W RMS @ 4ohms. Best Buy wanted $299 + tax, Crutchfield wanted $249. Bought it from Etronics for $164 shipped. Good deal I believe.

Jones'n to install it now.
