wow that was a lot of S's. but anyways, i need some help and some ideas. I'm looking into putting in a little sound system into my sport trac. I do have a budget, but I need it to sound decent. I'm more into quality than loudness, by the way. The one thing I'm for sure I'm going to get, is 2 JL w0's (10 inch). Besides that, I need suggestions on new mids and highs as well as amps. Also, since I'm a college kid, which means I live in a college town, crime is kind of a problem. I'm going to be putting in an alarm/security system with remote start soon, and I was wondering what kind of alarms you guys had put in, and what had worked the best. Any ideas you have are great, and I appreciate all of them. Thanks again.

Since you are not into loudness but still desire quality I would go with a new HU, Alpine type-s door speakers with no amp and 1 10" sub.

I have tuned the HP crossover on my alpine deck that I do not need an amp to power them and they work perfect. I am also running a JL 8w3 and it fills the cab with enough bass for me. I would consider only 1 10" under the seat to lower your costs for an amp and construction of a sub box.

I would look for the right HU because with no amp for door speakers it it the brain. Try to find a deck that has an expandable equalizer and crossover.

As for an alarm system, I have a Compustar 2way fm remote start. This is a good starter alarm because it has a proximity sensor, paging system, and remote start. If there are alot of thefts in your area I would suggest louder sirens and 1 self powered siren hidden in the cab. If you want to spend extra money you can also purchase another proximity sensor that can silently page you when there is continuos motion outside your vehicle. This will give you more time to catch the bastard trying to break in.

I have 4 mtx's 3 ways in the doors with a 200 watt amp on them and the Cwells Dual 8 inch box behind the back seats witha 600 watt amp. I think it is clean and sounds great. I also have it running off the stock radio, so no one has any idea what is in the truck, because even with the windows open it looks 100% stock..

I have the viper alarm with remote start..

jason, the reason i said 2 jl w0's was because where i live they usually do buy one get one free. so the only extra cost would be the amp and box construction, but would the quality and loudness (a plus, but definetely not needed) be worth it or should i just say thanks but no thanks to the freebie?

As far as door speakers I would go with (this is what I have) Alpine Type-R (step up from type-s) SPR57LS components for the front, and the spr57lp's for the rear doors (got a great deal from www.indoaudio.com) and if you want sound quality for subs look up member ADAM. He has custom installed jl audio 8" subs (2 of them) behind the rear seat. You'll run into problems finding a 10" subs that can be mounted in the limited depth that we have behind the rear seat.

As far as an alarm, I would get the Compustar 2 way paging alarm system (I have).

I like the Jl audio 10w1v2 better than wo the main reason is the mounting depth is under 5 inches as far as mids and highs i suggest listening to to diffrent kinds and decide which ones you want.

Just under $700 total in my sound system and it sounds awesome. I have:

Sony CDX-FX7715 HU (Crutchfield ... $269)

Polk DB570 5x7/6x8 door speakers in all four doors (do only the front if you don't have people in back often) (also Crutchfield, many times can get pair for $99 with second pair at half off)

RF3408 8" sub in C Wells enclosure behind rear seat (off ebay for $75)

Audiobahn A2002T amp for the sub (Circuit city, $129 w/free install)

California 50x4 amp for the door speakers (off ebay, $50)

Scosche amp wiring kit (Wal Mart believe it or not, $20)

I also went w/Peel and Seal to sound proof the interior ... same stuff as Dynamat at a fraction of the cost. Is a little thinner, but I've had it on for several months w/no problems.

Excellent info; I've also been looking into upgrading the Audiophile system on my 04 all the while keeping the factory HU. Am debating on either Type-Rs or Type-S, and most likely get an 8-incher to fit into a CWells enclosure. Not sure which amp.

Big-D, are you running your Type-Rs off of the factory HU?
