Today I finally decided to hook up my stock 02 subwoofer to my 04-05 MP3 cd changer.

Splicing the wires sucked--there wasn't enough room for those crimp connectors to all get in where I could reach, and in finagling I broke the black wire to the old plug , which led to me amputating the old plug entirely and just splicing the new one on. I wanted to keep both, but we can't always get what we want :(

When all was said and done, I needed to test the woofer, so I found the best thing I could think of, a bass solo, and put it on and maxed the bass. I wasn't really feeling it, just the bass that comes from the normal speakers.

So I went and put my ear to the woofer, and it does make noise; it sounds like someone is whispering along to the song. What does this mean? Did my woofer die sitting there for over a year of inactivity? I'm betting the 4 wires I spliced are properly done ;)

Also, now when I turn the ignition to battery I hear this sorta high-pitched whirring/rev up, kinda like a disposable camera flash charging. I think it is coming from the woofer area, and I haven't noticed it before, but then again, I haven't been straining my ears to every little sound coming out of the trac before.

There's nothing I have to do on the radio itself to let it know there is a woofer, right?

Not sure if the Stock sub units are amped or if the amp is part of the OEM H/U. May need to splice an amp in between the sub and the H/U. Especially if the vehicle didn't come equiped with the sub.;)

My ST came with a sub, it just didn't plug and play with the 04 radio (mine is an 02). It seemed that all I had to do was splice the 4 wires across. They were even color coded identically.

The stock sub comes with a very plain looking grey amp next to it.

I guess I'll have to reexamine my wiring :(

Well, it seems my woofer woes are over.

I went to go through part of ZZ top collection, but forgot that I had left off on a metal song, and I was caught off-guard by the sudden presence of actual bass.

After playing "where's the ricer?" for a second (there were no other cars in sight lol) I realized that my subwoofer was back, in all of its long neglected glory.

One thing I thought was interesting is that the bass doesn't change with the volume, only the bass setting. While this makes perfect sense, it's still kinda weird.

All is right in my audio world now. Time to move on to aux input :D

Thanks
