The Docs in ER tried all those techniques last night to slow down my heart. The only thing that worked was some drug that stopped my heart for about six seconds. Freakiest thing I ever felt, and left me gasping for air. They basically "rebooted" my heart. I guess they'll have to put CTRL, ALT and DEL buttons on my chest. :)

The Air Force Docs are treating this as an isolated case, but have given me a consult downtown, and some meds. They have not restricted me from deployments or regular PT. I told him I planned to continue training for a 10K leg of the OKC memorial marathon, and he said that's Ok, as long as I stay aware of any discomfort that may occur. If I experience fatigue like cruzrtwdgt says, that plan may go out the window though. I'd probably drop back to a 5K. Needless to say, I'll be taking it easy until after the cardiologist has given me a thorough checkup. I am not one to tempt fate. :)

hey man im glad to hear you are doing good...a little advice though,,,im an EMT in my town for about 2 years now..i have seen patients with this before...i know what its like rushing a patient in the ambulance except im the one looking down at you!! lol but anywas you have to take it easy man..deffiantly get your rest and stay away from stress...any kind...let the docs learn a little more about your case and wait for them to talk to you...my S/T and i have first responed to a guy who had a condition like yours...did what he did every day and went running then collapsed..me and the S/T were first there and he wasnt having a good time...not trying to scare you in anyway but jsut a piece of advice..take it easy for now man!! good luck!!!

Nelson, it would probably take 2 years just to go through the Medical Review process. I'm on active duty now for 6 months just from a shoulder injury (no surgery required, so far) during my last deployment in July. Not having a Medical Treatment facillity near by makes things very difficult with Tri (not to) Care remote.

Good luck, don't push it too hard.

Mike - CT,

I've thought about this very issue a lot, and I'm with you. I'm taking it easy until after I'm seen by the cardiologist. I'm not convinced that this military doctor knew what he was doing, since last night I figured out that he gave me a different dose than what the ER docs did. He prescribed a once a day extended release, vs. a twice a day normal dose, but then didn't tell me about it. Fortunately, I read the bottle, because I could have overdosed.

Thank you to everyone who wished me well. I took the day off to relax and spend it with my daughter (her last day of Christmas break). I'll be taking it easy until after the appointment with the cardiologist.

So far, the "reboot" is working fine. :D

Have a great weekend, I know I will!
