I am posting new on this again because thought maybe no one will look at the outdated post below on the same subject and I still have a question. Since Ford examined my sway bar yesterday and said they have a TSB on the end links, they said to bring it in next week and they will replace the end links etc. They didn't say anything about touching the axle bushings on the sway bar. So is that all they will touch? They didn't say a word about my having an EE sway bar yesterday, and if the replacement end links from Ford fit the EE sway bar then can I just tell them that's all to do, and then just "grease" the axle bushings on the EE sway bar with some marine grease I provide them? I know it sounds a little unusual to approach it this way but do you think they'd have any issues with this? And has anyone actually gone through this TSB service with a Ford dealer that can confirm the end links are the only parts they replace? (See paste in threads below from previous discussion on this website for the actual TSB description and Ford Workshop Manual Section number.) Actually does anyone have a copy of this workshop manual section they could post, or at least read and then confirm the end links are the only parts involved? That would be cool too. Thanks for your patience with someone who is not very mechanically skilled with cars.

04-21-3 SQUEAKING NOISE FROM REAR SWAY BAR LINK
Publication Date: October 8, 2004
FORD: 2001-2005 Explorer Sport Trac
ISSUE:
Some 2001-2005 Explorer Sport Trac vehicles may exhibit a squeaking noise from the rear suspension, which is especially noticeable when driving over bumps. The noise may be coming from the rear stabilizer bar link bushing(s).
ACTION:
Confirm the source of the noise by jouncing the rear of the vehicle up and down, by pushing on the rear bumper. Replace the rear stabilizer bar link(s) with revised part and attachment nut(s). Torque to new specification of 55 lb-ft (75 N-m). Refer to Workshop Manual Section 204-02.

Hal, Thank you for finding out for me. But now that raises a new question. If I have an EE swaybar, will this be an issue? Obviously, the old sway bar is MUCH smaller than my current one and thus the bushings should not fit if they replace them. I'm thinking I need to refuse service on this one, but am not sure.

The EE bar diameter is larger, not the end link connection points. The holes on the ends of the bar are the same.

Hal, other than the ntgove site, is there a way we civilians can find tsb's? thank you,
Teddy

Without sounding ignorant....does this mean that it will only be the endlinks of the sway bar that will be replaced, and nothing to do with the sway bar itself? Thus it will be okay to let them go ahead with repair of this TSB?
Thanks again,
I just wanted to clarify.

Jenn D, only the end link bushings and the associated nuts/bolts will be replaced. Not the bar. Your investment is safe.

Yeah, but be careful, they could try and blame it on the bar.
re: Need info on a TSB by TRACket Paul,7/27/2005 01:43 ET
Typically, the techs don't notice the difference in the bars.

Jedd,
to be on the safe side, swap the old bar back on. Just in case they try the name game, as Jeff mentioned above.
