just saw on another site that mercon v is not good in the t-case.. dont know how much truth there is to that statement.

i have a 03 and i just did all mobile 1 synthetic fluids throughout..

mobile 1 full synthetic mercon is classified as mercon v.. i cant think of any reason why the mercon v would be a bad idea on a transfer case?

The t-case calls for regular mercon ( EDIT).... Not Mercon V......

Could be seals, Could be metal parts, Could simply be BS....

I put Royal purple ATF in my 03 and Mobile 1 ATF on my 04..

Correction, t-case calls for regular Mercon. Not to be picky.

Regardless, Mobil 1 ATF is rated for Mercon, Mercon V, and Dexron, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Mercon V is supposed to be compatible with and able to replace Mercon. Mercon, however, cannot be used where Mercon V is required. If you use Mercon V everywhere you should be fine.

that was my thinking, since mercon V has all the necessary requirments to be classified as mercon then the fluid is just above and beyond the std mercon.

FYI i dont think you can get a full synthetic ATF that is only classified as mercon and not mercon V

Mobil 1 ATF used to be Mercon-rated but not Mercon V-rated. About a year ago they upgraded it to be Mercon V-rated also. In a t-case it is just used to lubricate the chain and gears and whatnot and isn't used as a hydraulic fluid like it is in a tranmission with clutch packs and friction discs anyway.

Just the same, if you need Mercon V for your tranny and buy Mobil 1 ATF, check the back of the bottle to make sure it's the newer Mercon V stuff.
