Hey guys,

Just a quick question does anyone know if there is any company out there that makes some sort of aftermarket tail lights for gen 2?

I know there is lots of for gen 1, but notrhing for the newer ones.

I saw few people paint (tint) theirs but i just dont know if I want to go that route.

please advise. Thanks

You are asking for trouble I think. Every single one of those after market lights are lower in intensity than the Ford lights from my perspective. It makes no sense to replace those with lights that are less effective but look "cool". Makes no sense unless you enjoy getting rear ended.

+1 on Heyward' comment. Just can't see 'em too well. How about switching over to LED bulbs instead? Brighter , faster, just plain cool if you ask me. BC

Anyone on the ball (or have a good lawyer) will realize that someone who's altered the factory brake lights in style, design, or intensity has opened themselves up to civil lawsuit if they get rear-ended.

I almost hit a guy in a jacked up POS Chevy pickup with tinted brake lights today because I couldn't see that he was braking to slow for a turn. Couldn't see his turn signal either. I'd be at my lawyer's office within minutes of being cleared by the cops if I would have hit him. No f*cking way am I or my insurance company going to be on the hook for a dumbshit that deliberately makes his lights less visible. I'd sue to recover repairs to my truck, changes in my insurance premiums due to the crash, and anything else I can think of.

my tail lights are aftermarket and have been cleared by the local police since my last ones kept getting me pulled over for being to dark...

Aftermarket light housings are legal with a DOT/SAE approved stamp or mark.

Changing the bulbs, may not be. Check Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. (FMVSS 108)

No disrespectful intention here guys/gals, but I don't think any of these replies help Mario with his question . . .

Familiarity & compliance with local laws, etc. is really up to the individual discretion.

I'm sure to some degree Mario appreciates fellow members looking out for him, but arguing or hammering this "legal" or "not legal" discussion doesn't really provide a helpful answer.

Mario,

I also have been on constant lookout for aftermarket headlights & taillights and to my knowledge, to date, no one has found anything at all. I keep hearing that it's only a matter of time before something is available, but it's been 4 years since the Gen 2 hit the road and still nothing.

I believe the tail lights are he same as the F150 shortbed, but apparently there are no aftermarket tail lights for those trucks either.

No one makes them and even Recon doesn't want to..... I asked... i would have to guaranty a min order of 1,000 !!!! Umm i dint think so !!
