Is there any way to force Google into an English-only mode? Apparently, the Google website can sense I am hitting it from Poland (by my IP address I suspect). Now all the dialogue is in Polish. It is very irritating because Google is my most used web site.

I experienced that in Japan. As you can imagine I couldn't interpret anything other than the pics/logos. Just bookmark the english page that Pat linked.

Nelson, you have at least 3 weeks notice before you were shipped over. I think that the service and Google are in cahoots, you should have learned the language before you left....

 Coastie,

I think the military is the only employer that doesn't give language training to their personnel before sending them over. I found out on 1 Sep about this, so that is four months. I should speak like a native by now. :D

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt..

You should be fluent .

Well, you will be there JUST long enough to learn the language. Hope it will be of benefit in your future. I can tell you that normal government jobs will give you more money if you know additional languages.

Good luck on your tour.

When I was in the Army, we got a little book about the country where we were going and it had a little about the country's history, size, population, weather, and customs as well as some helpful and less helpful phrases in the native language. How often does one need the phrase, "My tie is in my soup" ???:lol:

...Rich

Yeah, one of my co-workers told me about that today. It is available for free at Army Knowledge Online, but unfortunately, I am not in the Army. I am an "Air Force of One" here. I even get to decide where I put my unit patches on my uniform, since I am the only one in Poland.

You're the only member of the US Air Force in Polland? Wow! You da mon!

We may get a LtCol in a couple of months, but for now I am the only one. I work for a German Lt Col, and I am the only American in my branch. I work with Dutch, German, Turkish and Polish personnel. The other US forces work in other branches and are Army, Navy and Marines.
