I have been contemplating buying one for a while.

People say they have never slept better, with no regrets shelling out over $1500.

Replacing an excellent "waveless" water bed, after 25 years.

Feedback appreciated.

dunno about the full mattress.. but i put one of those 4 inch tempur pedic mattress covers on my bed and am hooked. maybe that's all you need as opposed total bed.

When we were shopping for our mattress we were told by the salesman (who sold 3 brands including those) that we were too young and "active" to like a tempur pedic. We didn't like how it felt anyways, but I thought that was funny.

Wife and I purchased a sleep number bed several years ago... When shopping for it, we looked at the Tempur Pedic, and it really was a close decision for us. We bought the sleep number bed and a 3" Tempur Pedic topper, and it has been great. Best of both worlds IMO.

Bought a top of the line one a couple of years ago... LOVE IT! I've hammered my body over the years and have back issues, and I sleep quite well wtih one. Just takes a little used to the warmth generated by your body heat in the foam, but once you get used to that, you'll be fine! If you share a bed, you don't even know the other person is there. As far as 'other activities'... no problems there, either. I used mine on an almost daily basis for those activities, and it's fine...

Been thinking about it, too. I'll be watching this thread for more opinions.

I didn't know Tiger Woods was a Sport Trac driver :smile0012:

Love mine, had it for about 10 years now. Love it even more since I bought a new platform bed six months ago, and ditched the box spring. And like the guy on the "Hair Club" commercial says "I can engage in any activity..."

I purchased a memory foam mattress about 2 years ago. Best upgrade I found from a water bed that I was currently using. I needed something more firm for back support but also enough lee-way room for softness. I spent about $1000 with value city when I got it, and it came with a deal of something like, buy 1 piece bedroom furniture get $100 off your mattress, so I got a head board and the mattress amount came with box spring and cheap frame mount.

I deliver liquor for work and I really needed something for my back. Bed was the best investment I've made.

I didn't know he was either...

I know I drive one and I used my Tempurpedic as an 'indoor olympics' mat for the last couple years when I had a g/f! She did say I liked it more than anyone else she'd been with... She's gone now, guess maybe I wore her out. (Guess she's never been with Tiger then either.) She did say that it was the best mattress she'd ever slept on also, and she was a youngin'...

Personally, I don't like the way the memory foam mattresses feel.

I move a lot in my sleep and because of the conforming-characteristics of the memory foam, I get claustrophobic.

I went with a talalay latex foam mattress instead.

One of the benefits to the latex foam is that the oils from your body don't cause the breakdown that occurs with man-made foam.

Also, the main seller for me is that it keeps your body cool, minimizing sweating.

The processing of talalay foam consists of 7-8 steps, providing the most consistent foam available.

They sell them with or without inner springs. Mine is without so I never have to rotate it and so I don't feel the springs.

The one I got is last years model from Serta's Vera Wang collection. . . . a $4,000 bed from Star Furniture's Clearance center for $800.

Just my 2

I've had both the memory foam topper and a Sleep Number Bed.

The foam was great for a about 18 months. At 24 months, we got a Sleep number Bed. That was about 11 years ago. I'll never have another type of bed.

the sleep number is the way to go and price is about the same.

I slept on a Tempur Pedic once. It was hot. I mean really hot. I woke up in a sweat and had a headache. It was like sleeping on a board. I was up half the night. WTF do people see in those goddamned things?

Thanks gang! Only way to find out would be taking advantage of their 90 day "risk free" trial.

The transition from a cool waveless waterbed may be difficult after 25 years. (Temperature)

May be a better way to spend the $$$. (Michelins, Xcal3, Zabteck TB, etc.)

Appreciate the input.

How about other activities when another person was involved? How did that work?

I have the Simmons version (confor-pedic) and their process was developed by NASA. 3500 bed but has the highest density of form and for the first 4 inches and they solved the heat issue. Mime sleeps cool. I just had back surgery and getting into it is tough put once there, heaven. I wasn't very impressed with sleep number build quality. The bed I got is a Mystere. :smile0006:

Russ -- all of those "Memory Foam" materials -- CONFOR, Tempur, etc. -- are derived from an original NASA formulation. I used to work for a company that made a version of that foam for hospital beds (ours was not used for commercial beds, so the testimonial below has nothing to do with me trying to sell anything).

I have a Tempur-pedic bed and love it. It does feel wierd at first, but that goes away pretty quick.
