Thank you Goodies for the Troops
Early Sunday morning (4am) my wife and I and a large porting of her family went to the airport to meet her sister in law who is a Captain in the air force. She was en route to Kuwait for the start of a 6 month deployment. Her plane stopped over at the airport for just an hour. Several friends and family members baked cookies and other goodies to take there with us for the troops to snack on. It started out small but everyone wanted to join in. We ended up with 4 large boxes full. In the time we were there three flights of troops heading over seas stopped off there. There were probably about 1000 in all from the Air Force and the Army. Kind of sad to see that many people that are leaving their families for the holidays.
FYI Bangor Internation Airport is a regular stopping point for troops coming home and going over seas and gained some national recognition for its "Troop Greeters" program. Even at 4am there were 20 or so greeters there. These are mostly retired military men and their wives and they almost make the troops happy.
