39 years old at the time of the 9-11 attack on America (I had just gotten to work at Hurlburt Field a few minutes before the attack began -- It was a very long and stressful day -- that base became a ghost town within weeks as everyone deployed to places none of us had ever heard of before.)
37 years old on the first day of Y2K (I was working at the club that evening as a DJ in the Azores, Portugal. I called my fiancee in the states at midnight, to say "Happy New Year", and also to see if the phone was still working.)
35 years old when Princess Diana was killed in a car crash (Didn't hear about for a few days -- I was in Turkey and didn't watch much TV then)
33 years old at the time of Oklahoma City bombing (I was working at Vandenberg AFB -- my future ex-wife told me about it. I was getting ready to ship out to Turkey and thought that even the US wasn't safe anymore.)
32 years old when O. J. Simpson was charged with murder (I was at work at Vandenberg AFB, CA and they showed the white Bronco "chase" on the local news)
30 years old at the time of the 93 bombing of the World Trade Center (Didn't think much of it at the time)
28 years old when Operation Desert Storm began (I was at Peterson AFB, CO and I felt left out as so many of my co-workers left for the war.)
27 years old during the fall of the Berlin Wall (I was working at Peterson AFB, and thought it was cool to watch on TV, but didn't think it would make a big difference at the time.)
23 years old when the space shuttle Challenger exploded (I was bagging groceries that day at my first job in Lexington, KY. One of the other employees told me about it.)
21 years old when Apple introduced the Macintosh (Don't know)
21 years old during Sally Ride's travel in space (Didn't care)
19 years old when Pres. Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, Jr. (I was probably watching MTV and didn't even know about it for a week -- at 19 I didn't really think about it much)
17 years old at the time the Iran hostage crisis began (I watched it on Nightline, or the precursor almost every night. Nightline was basically just special coverage of the Iranian Hostage crisis the first year, and the ratings were so good, they just renamed and kept the show with Tom Koppel)
14 years old on the U.S.'s bicentennial Fourth of July (I remember and my goal is to see the tri-centennial)
12 years old when President Nixon left office (I was happy, because now they would stop interrupting Gilligan's Island all the time.)
10 years old when Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace was shot (Didn't care, but I do remember. I remember thinking he was a bigot)
7 years old at the time the first man stepped on the moon (We lived in Kentucky. I was GLUED to the TV for days!)
6 years old when Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated (Don't remember)
3 years old during the Watts riot (I remember hearing about it when I was older whenever another riot occurred)
a 1 year old at the time President Kennedy was assassinated (We lived in Rhode Island. Mom said she was ironing and I was in the playpen when she heard it on the radio (we had no TV back then). She said she cried all day...)
