Last night, ESPN Radio was reporting that the dreams of sports headline writers across the country were dashed last night.
The reason? Georgia beat South Carolina 11-6 in the NCAA baseball regional final, advancing to the College World Series (CWS).
Still not making sense? Well, then, consider that Oregon State earlier had also made it to the CWS.
And if South Carolina had beaten Georgia, and Oregon State and South Carolina had either both won their CWS opening round games, or both lost their opening round games, they would have faced each other in the second round.
And those headline writers were salivating at the opportunity to creatively report on a contest between the 'Cocks and the Beavers.
(No, I'm not making this up--this is what ESPN Radio's commentators were discussing last night. The only things they talked about in about two hours time were Ben Roethlisberger's facial, the U.S. World Cup collapse, and the possibility of this CWS baseball matchup.)
