AT about 11:30pm last night I was finishing up on computer., when all of a sudden the house alarm sound. I did not hear any strange sounds so I get to see what was going on. I noticed that the front door was unsecured and the panel indicated that the front door had been breached. Figured I did not secure the door after going out for dinner and that the wind pushed it enough to sound the alarm. I reset the alarm and secured the door. Not scared yet cause I did go out and I was the last to come home so it's my fault.

As I headed back to the computer something said look around to make sure. I go pass the boys room and didn't see my 7yr old. I check the top bunk still not there. I go to my room don't see him in the bed with the wife. I ask her where is Myles, she ask what do I mean. I told her what happened she gets up and go look. By this time I had pushed her out of the way told her to call 911. With glock in hand I run out the door screaming his name. No response. I screamed louder and more frantically and I hear him respond by saying yes. As I proceeded down the outside stairwell I see him on the ground level making his way back to the stairs. I ran down to great him and looking around for any foul play.

I take him back up stairs and asure him that he was ok. I questioned him about the incident and he said that he thought we were going somewhere and he heard mommie calling him. I asked him did he remember opening the door he said no. He just remember seeing the stairs.

He was sleep walking. We knew that he does this from time to time but never to that extreme. I woke today and put a security chain on the door so that this doesn't happen again.

Thanks for letting me vent and thanks for reading.

Glad it turned out ok. Chain all the doors. I had 2 cousins that sleep walked. One would get up and pee in dresser drawers. The other was known to make a sandwich from dog food.

Too scary for me and the wife. I don't know what I would have done if it didn't turn out like it did. All I know is that God had his hands on the situation. Even if it wasn't a kidnapping he could have gotten hit by a car or something. I was already trying to decide if I was going to church tomorrow, but I know the answer now.

Between the ages about 8 and 12 I was a chronic sleepwalker. It scared the crap out of my parents. I used to talk to them while sleep walking (mostly yes, now, uh-huh) and I would even get on a coat and boots as if I were going somewhere. It's scary, but it is something most kids that age grow out of.

I used to sleep walk when I was younger as well. Many times I awoke to find myself peeing in some corner of the house somewhere. Another time I had a dream I was doing my laundry and awoke to standing in front of the toilet and it was full of my clothes. I never left the house though. I grew out of it in my early teens.

Rue used to sleep walk when he was younger. He would turn all the lights on, empty out all of his dresser drawers and once attempted to walk out the front door. We put bells at the top the doors (kinda like some store do) so if he tried to get out we could be alerted. He would come into our bedroom and talk to us, then go back to his bed. Luckly he only did this for a few months, but yes it is a very scary feeling.

My older brother use to do it fairly often.

On a few occasions we found him sleeping in the car the next morning.

Like you, my dad put up chains at all doors...

Some of your situations are funny peeing in the corners and drawers, emptying all the drawers, eating dog food and so on:D:D:D. I would have rather all of your situations happen all at once last night than to go through what I did.

It was a good thing that you actually thought about looking in on your child.

I am sure that you were beyond scared for a few moments...

The worst feeling I ever had and working in my profession. I have had numerous. (law enforcement)

Holy crap.... Glad to hear myles is OK.

that is a very scary situation....

you did the right thing...

yes ,put that chain lock on and maybe like rose said the bells maybe a good thought...

Adam thanks for the info I'm gonna see what the chain brings, as the alarm is also an alert to us as well.

Our son use to that also. Pretty freaky when they even talk to you. Always use your alarm, I have had some of customers robbed after I installed an alarm for them because they never set it:wacko:. The chime feature is always good to have on.
