So I wanted to hang the Christmas stockings on our mantle, but I don't want hooks showing year round and I hate those stocking holders that go on the mantle. So I had this idea, I put threaded inserts in the underside of the mantle. I'm luck enough to have a big enough lip that you can't see them unless you're looking up from the bottom. Then I got hooks and screwed them into the inserts. The inserts will stay there year round, the hooks just at the holidays. Looks good IMO, the stockings hang over the fireplace and nothing showing later in the year. All that for less then $5 in hardware from Lowes, Home Depot didn't care the hardware I needed.



I just got a new camera and I haven't installed the software on the computer so no pics yet.

sounds like a good Idea Rich,We have the brass weighted hangers, so they aren't to bad looking._Ron
