Aloha y'all

I bought a Dell desktop for $30 but to get started, I must enter (control alt delete). Then enter name and password (Windows XP). I don't have to do anything on the laptop! When I turn it on, Windows starts. Can any of you tell me how to make the desktop boot like the laptop?

God bless and Merry Christmas

If you leave the password blank, it will probably boot up, but if you already entered a password, it remembers it and will require it on every boot up.

If you want to clear the password, you can go to /Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. The lookup the Administrator User and right click. Select the option to change password and just leave the password blank. If you get the dialog box asking for your passward, just hit enter and that should end your problem.

Ed,

If you have not resolved your problem yet, you can always download "Austrumi Password Software". Do a search on Google and you will find dozens of sites where you can download it. It works great and it's free. Even if you don't understand all the prompts, just type "Pass" and the first prompt and return on the others and it will eventually come up with a list of User Accounts...You will have an Administrator user (if the name has not been changed) which comes up as the default. You can change the password, but I recomment that you just blank the password. That will get you logged in, and you can change the Administrator Password though the control panal dialogs.

PS: Obviously you will have to download Austrumi on a different computer and burn the software onto a CD-ROM. Then boot your Dell computer from the Austrumi CD. When you boot your PC and you see the Dell logo with the option to press the F12 key to get to the boot menu, then select the CD drive as the boot drive.

After you clear the password, you will be prompted to rewrite the hive data...YOU MUST ENTER a "y" to rewrite the data, or it will not clear the old password when you reboot the system.
