Tightened down 3rd brake light . . .

Noticed last week (first of the heavy rain storms here in CA), that I had a slight leak behind the backseat in that little tray where the subwoofer is housed. Not gushing, but definitely of concern.



I remember a post a ways back about double-checking the 3rd brake light. After determining it was not the back window, I popped off the back trim in the backseat, and yep, water (very little), was coming in thru the hole for the 3rd brake light, and was being channeled down the edge trim, and onto the subwoofer try.



Thank goodness water did not make it to the lining, but shot a hair dryer in there just in case. Pressed down slightly as I was reassembling the light, and after a few more rains, not a problem.



In case you guys haven't looked lately, check for leaks. Think I'll eventually get those smoked Recon 3rd brake lights, Todd -- right after blowing my savings at the casinos celebrating my step-son's 21st birthday!

Just tightening mine did not work. I had to remove it and coat the gasket lightly with silicone.

That'll be the next step. Heck, I should do it ASAP.

I'm scared to get the Recon kit (although I do like it) --because my OEM one has NOT leaked yet. My amp is mounted where OEM sub used to be. I would not be happy. I don't have the tray on because the amp can vent better that way.

I have notices a leak on the back window of my ST. I had no idea where it could of been coming from. Now i will take off the 3rd break light and check that out. I used to have my amp in that little storage area. Now i took it out and have 2 under the passenger side back seat. And sub behind the back of that seat. I had to take that black lining out of the back to have the sub fit and able to have the back seat move a little bit.

My Recon had a better seal than OEM.

One thing worth mentioning is that the OEM assembly has a little rubber o-ring in each of the screw holes.

I don't believe that the Recon assembly has them. When I replaced my OEM, the o-rings came out with the screws, but didn't seal right when I installed the Recon.

That was the culprit when my roof started leaking.

I've filled the screw holes with a silicon glue and I'm leak-free.
