Ugh.. guys.. you sort know me. I'm not the hyped up performance nut... but a sick child and a spirited ride to the emergency room at 3am with the trac left me in a "pickle". The trac topped out at 100mph. I truly belive had I been pulled over the man would have seen my 16 month old and I would have gotten escorted ride to the ER. Then I would have needed to keep up with a LT1 Interceptor.

My trac, she is bone stock. I've never tried to top out the trac in the last 4 years I've been with her but I knew when I hit 100mph the fuel system was retarding delivery. She wanted to go faster but was programmed not too. Would a xcalc and a new tune correct this?

Btw, my little girl is ok after a night in the hospital. Amazing what doc's can do these days when they understand the sense of urgency. It's scary what can happen when they don't.

-Putz.

PS. Now I've yelled at God twice in my life. And it was because of my twins both times.

Yes, the tune will correct it.

Incidentally, when my ex-wife went into labor, I called the police as I left and told them what was up and what I was driving. Within 2 miles, they had a car escorting me. Within another couple miles, I had 4, and they were calling ahead to other jurisdictions to arrange the same. It was pretty cool.

Hey Dingo,

Good advice for any Dad's to be. Call the po po when mad rushing to the hospital. They are sympathetic to it. When my wife went into the labor with the girls I didn't call, I just hauled a$$ the 50 miles to the hospital. Frankly, I don't remember the trac topping out that night, it was a blur cause the girls came 9 weeks early. Lol, want to talk about a state of shock, I went home after 7 hours to mow the lawn and de-poop the dog. To this day, I don't know why I did that. My wife still buggers me about it but the docs were confident they were going to slow down the delivery for a couple of weeks and I belived them. She called me and said "come back", 3 hours later and alot of gross stuff in between, I was a daddy to two premies.

Anyway, it's our anniversary today, guess I'm a little wax poetic but after 12 years of being together, we have our girls and they are doing ok a-ok. Today, one of them held up a ping pong ball and yelled... BAAAWWWWWWLLLLLLLL at the top of her lungs.

Glad to hear your Daughter's OK. I work in the emergency medical field and I always tell patients families not to follow directly behind the ambulance and to drive safely to the ER. I understand that you want to be there by your Daughter's side at all times.....I'm a Father and I understand, but it won't do anyone any good if you or anyone else ends up in the hospital or worse. Just addressing my concern..that's all.:)

Like Dingo said, you can have the speed limiter removed with the xcal and it does a bunch of other things as well. One of the best investments I've made for my trac.

man Yuka...100 mph is damn fast...to tell you the truth even in emergencies you really shouldn't be going that fast! when i respond with lights and sirens in all types of emergency vehicles i don't even go near that fast! remember, it's no help unless you get to where you need to go...i am not judging your driving skills nor your choice rush to the hospital, but just looking out for safety! so many things can go wrong at that speed and the trac is not built for it...just wondering why you didn't call the ambulance if you don't mind me asking...don't need to know what was going on, i just like to hear why people don't call...again, not attacking you in anyway, i know there are some situations like the wife in labor where you need to go stat, but just be careful at that speed!

and for the future, hopefully not though...you can call 9-1-1 and set up an intercept with an ambulance and a medic, you do not have to wait at your house. when the dispatcher picks up just tell them you are driving in the car, the situation, where you are headed, and where you want to meet. i have met parents with kids/wives, you name it at places such as commuter parking lots...

I know I know.. If I posted this on the motorcycle saftey forum I would be lambasted from left to right Hawaii and in a perfect world your absolutely right. But look around... perfect...it's not.

...Ambulance Intercept. Didn't know they did that. We live out in the boonies. In the two years we've lived here I've only seen a police car once... and that was 13 miles from my house. Guess I've always kinda figured we were on our own. That was part of the reason that attracted us to the home we purchased to begin with. BUT.. and a BIG BUT... Thanks for advice about the intercept. I will share that with the wife for future reference. Perhaps a stop by the local volunteer vfd for a recon is in order.

Thanks guys,

I always know where to find solid reliable information about well.. just about everything that is important.

Putz as a father of twins myself, i know what you went thru!!!! my boys weren't as early as yours but they were early none the less. and spent 3 or 4 days in incubator.

But anyway they are well now.

i recently purchased the xcal and installed the performance tune on my 2005 Trac. You will not top out at 100...

:D

The stock Sport Trac computers were programmed to limit the speed to approximately 97 MPH. An aftermarket programmer can be used to eliminiate the top-speed limiter, but for the once in a lifetime emergency that would require driving at that speed, it probably is not worth the money.

I had an emergency a number of years ago and I drove my Honda Accord at about 90 MPH on the busy freeways in Dallas. The biggest obsticle was other drivers who refuesed to get out of the way even when I had my emergency flasher on? So having a vehicle that goes over 100 MPH and being able to drive over 100 MPH becuase of traffic is another story.

The other problem is just general safety. The Sport Trac is not a Sports car and does not handle anything like a sports car. The tires are not rated forsustained speeds abve 100 MPH and the brakes are not that great at hauling down a 4300 lbs vehicle from 100 MPH.

no Problem Yuka...if need be, meet at easy locations such as commuter parking lots or fire departments, community centers...etc! i hear what you mean about your reasoning being far out and that also being the reason why you moved there! when i get out of school i'm planning on moving to the woods as well!:D

I had mine wound out on a lightly-traveled highway last week and it hit a tick over 100 when the limiter kicked in. My '02 Ranger and '05 Trac, both also 4.0 automatics, would only get to about 95.

Yuka,

What others have said.

You probably put your daughter in more jeopardy by your actions than if you simply stayed home with her, called an ambulance, waited...or called a friend and had them drive you.

TJR

I've only ever had it to 105ish mph....but if given a long straight stretch I'm sure I could wrap the speedo. But I can see why you did it, I'm really in no position to judge or say don't do it, I would probably do the same if the circumstances were appropriate. There are some member who drive 100+ for fun in their tracs.

You may think it's a stupid thing to do, but most would react the same way and only afterwards think it was foolish to do that. Sp lets not be too hard on him. Nomally rational people will react unrationally in a crisis.
