Got the sliping and reving fixed between 2nd and 3rd. Took it to a transmisson guy back home. He put a valve body kit on it. $473.00. Had it back a week runs great. Sure beats the $2,200 rebuild.

Glad to see you took it right in and had it fixed, Unlike some other people who let it slip too long and wipe the tranny out...

Billy.

I agree with Todd. You got it fixed rather than wait for the slipping to go away which only makes it worse. If you catch it early enough replacing the valvebody or solenoid pack will fix the problem. If you wait for it to get worse or until the O/D light starts blinking it's usually too late and you have to have the whole tranny rebuilt.

Thanks for keeping everyone informed.

Do you have a part number for this kit ? I took a quick look on Summit, but didn't find anything.

I noticed that other valve body kits are about 50$. What price should be expected ? Seems like you paid a lot of labor. Could it be a do-it-yourselfer ?

Steph,

I don't know where you are getting a valvebody for only $50 unless it is used or perhaps rebuilt?? Prices are typically in excess of $300-$350 and more depending upon the number of solenoids replaced. It is also a good practive to replace the fluid filter while you have the pan off since you need to remove it to get to the valvebody.

$450-$500 is a typical charge at any shop for the same valvebody replacement.

I did not get the part number. The kit was about $150 give or take. As far as the lobor cost, I think it was worth it. I would rather pay someone that knows what they are doing instead of me taking a first shot at it.

Richard, the kit I was looking at online at Summit Racing was for a Ford Escort I think ...

You can expect Summit to be at least 1/2 the price of your dealership.

Billy, I totally agree; I usually don't try stuff that I shouldn't.

I was curious about it, because I recently replaced my trans fluid; installed a drain and did the EPC adjustment. Now that I have a drain, I wouldn't mind giving it a shot if it's a kit that's less than 100$ if it's right on the surface; I wouldn't drop the transmission myself if it's required....

Billy, did your mechanic give you any specifics on what was wrong? Glad u have ur Trac back. Just got mine back too.
