Hi Guys,

Rebuilt my Trans maybe 18 months ago and now that I have put 20K miles on it, it acted up again. I brought it back to the guy that rebuilt it , but it is out of warranty already. He is charging me 1,500 for the second rebuild (he charged me 1,800 for the first). This guy looks very competent, but maybe doesn't know everything about ST transmissions. Is there a possibility he is ordering the wrong parts ? Any help appreciated on this, Thanks

You paid him once and he did not do it right, so you are having him do it again?

Seriously?

Did the original repair have a warranty? Yeah, I'd find another tranny shop. He's going to make a good living off of your ST.....

I never trust independ shops to rebuild a transmission from scratch, They only warranty the parts they replaced, but if the transmission fails because they did not see a damaged part, or did something wrong you are expected to pay for another rebuild because of their poor quality work.

I prefer to get a completely rebuild transmission from a manufacturer that specializing in rebuilding transmissions....They inspect every part and replace everything that shows any abnormals signs of wear. They will give you a much longer warranty because they know they did the job right and will warranty any part that fails, not just the ones they replaced.

Small shops always claim they rebuilt your transmission but the part that fails is always some part that they did not replace??? Why??? If the part was bad, it should have been replaced when the transmission was rebuilt. This has aways been the biggest consumer complaint about transmission shops that rebuild your transmission on site. They always claim the part that failed was the only part they did not replace, so now you must pay for them to do the rebuild again??? Ya Right !!!!

I would not take the transmission back to that shop again. If you are going to pay another $1500 for this guys shoddy workmanship, you are better off spending a few more bucks and swapping it out with a rebuilt transmission from a quality manufacturer with a longer and 100% guarantee on the entire transmission.

Ditto on what Richard said.

I see you have an '01. Did he now about the valve body upgrades and the solenoids.

If not that probably caused the failure. Might be all that is wrong, $500 to $700.

Go elsewhere. In my life I have talked to many mechanics that sounded and looked competent. But becase of things I have studied and know. They were good at blowing smoke up customers butts.

Go else where. Get a factory crate rebuilt. With full warranty.

$1500 to $1800 is not a full rebuild of parts that should be replaced. For our 5R55E trans.

Thanks Guys, I will take the Jasper route and have one of their authorized installers do the job, I am sure this guy is honest , but doesn't know ST's. I am hoping i can move the ST fromm one shop to the next without problems, Thanks for all your input guys.
