Just an update on the repairs on our Trac.

My call to our insurance co. paid off. Suddenly Allstate is willing to accept full liability for the repairs on our Trac! They said they cut a check today, and we should be back on the road early next week. Our body shop had already ordered the parts, and they just need to change them out with the old bent ones and paint it.

I guess it can pay to get your insurance co. involved. Now we'll see if they raise our rates!

It is strange how accidents that were not your fault always seem to raise your rates. Insurance companies justify this by saying there may be something in the way you drive, the area you drive in, etc that makes you more prone to accidents. For example I have 4 accidents on my record. 1 was in an emergency vehicle and that can not be used against you by the insurance companies at all. The other 3 were all when someone hit my vehicle when it was parked, two of those times I was not even in the same town as where I had left the vehicle (court house parking lot) and the other time I was sitting in my truck and a 1 ton snowplow was plowing and backed out of his parking lot across the road and into the lot I was in. These caused my insurance to rise, luckily they were years ago now so now my rates are quite low. Some companies say they will forgive the first one but that is probably a gimmick.

I have had 4 vehicles hit by other people that were not mine or my wifes fault and we never had our rates go up??? In some states, it's not legal to raise your rates for accidents that were not your fault or comprehensive claims for damages to your vehicle that are not collision related.

The one accident that my did have that she was at fault did not raise our rates but we had to pay an additional $35 Accident Fee for 3 years. Not too bad considering the insurance company had to pay for ambulance and emergency room charges for 6 people, $2800 to repair our 2 month old 2001 Sport Trac and nearly $7000 for the totalled Chevy Lumina that my wife hit.

...Rich

I think things are getting better with some companies because there are more laws that regulate them in most states and also more competition for lower rates and incentives. My rates seemed to go up a little each time after my accidents and I was told the reason why was as stated above. Once I got married my wife and I got our house and car insurance through the same company (different from the one I had before) and have been really happy with them ever since.
