I have heard that the market for large SUVs is huge overseas. My local Ford dealer has been selling all he can get to a broker- it is profitable to ship them all the way from Middle America! He says they don't care about high mileage, but they pay the highest prices on SUVs built within the last 3-4 model years. Crazy...

Gavin,

For years, a lot of the SUV's stolen in the US are shipped to Central and South America...especially those stolen along the Gulf coast. It was once reported that high priced cars and SUV's that were stolen along the Gulf coast states were concealed in ConEx boxes on departing ships within 3 days after they were stolen.

I think the US has gotten better at checking ships for stolen vehicles, so that is probably why they now buy them....or perhaps its just to have paperwork to cover the SUV's that are stolen and shipped?

Glad to see some countries have low enough gas prices to be demanding many large SUVs. Just wish that ours were one of 'em.

My gas tax goes up a minimum of 4 cents tomorrow as Phase 1 of my state's new gas tax kicks in.
