Hey all, I have the Pioneer system in my 03 ST and I am wanting to install an after market pioneer radio. My question is after I install this radio will my factory subwoofer still work? Is there anything special I should know before I tackle such a project? Thanks!

Yes, it will still work. You need to get a 5 amp voltage regulator from Radio Shack, so that the factory sub won't pop. You probably can find all the info you need on this by doing a search.

You will need to get an adapter for the aftermarket unit to be able to control the factory sub and elimiate the pop. I also had the Pioneer system on my 02 ST and went with the adapter below to maintain the factory speaker and amp in the rear of the back seat.

So if you use the harness linked above, you won't need the five-amp voltage regulator that David H mentioned?

I didn't need the five-amp regulator. The harness simplified everything as it just wires in (color match) to the aftermarked HU wires , plugs into the factory radio unit sockets (this way there is no cutting of factory wires and can simply go back to stock if need/want) and to the aftermarket HU RCA plug-in

does this all apply to the 04 adrenalin as well?? i thought my adrenalin came with a totally different stereo system than any other ST packages?? true? false?

I'm wondering the same thing, mike MuddySt. I'm thinking that it should work if the plugs are the same. I'll check my '04 ST shop manual and wiring manual after work tonight and report back here...

Thanks for all the help so far! So if I get this harness the RCA's on the harness go to the RCA's on the back of my aftermarket radio correct? And then the wires are just simply matched to my aftermarket harness right?

from what i remember, my 04 adren had the upgraded pioneer as standard in the adren. not sure.

imo, that stereo was great and i loved it.

I checked my wiring manual, and there's only one set of connectors listed for the Pioneer/Audiophile radio. So I believe that the connectors linked above will work.

Pretty much plug and play. Match the wires of the harness to the aftermarket HU wires then plug in its sockets to the factory plugs/sockets and plug in the RCA's. The RCA's are the ones that powers/controls the factory sub/amp.

It's not going to give you "Mega Bass". This is because it's a factory sub and since it's still working with the factory amp...the nice thing about it (at least on my 02 with a Sony HU) was that the Sony HU I had in it has a separate BASS control for the "SUB" which Sony and most name brand HU's will have directly related to RCA out's. This "Sub" bass control gave it a bit more "thump" than factory when I put the control level at + 4, above that and the factory sub sounded stressed, ready to blow.
