I realize that first responders probably used their equipment on the vehicle, but I can't imagine anyone surviving a vehicle accident with a result that looks like this.

It is a shame he died, but I'd like to comment that 2x the legal limit is meaningless. The legal limit is just some arbitrary limit lawmakers made up. Not that I condone drinking and driving, but I think the legal limit crap the media likes to tout is bogus.

Wonder who I'd have to call to get the roof rack crossbars off that truck. :)

I'm going straight to hell. *Shakes head at self*

....huh?

That's like saying the only reason why there are speed limits is so people will exceed them so they can be pulled over and given a ticket.

I read the article on MSN.com. I knew he was either high or drunk. These guys seem to think they are indestructable. Another life wasted. I read tonight also on espn.com that the Cards management has now banned alcohol in the clubhouse and are thinking of doing it in "away" clubhouses. Pitts., NYM, NYY, and the Okland A's prohibit alcohol in thier clubhouses. Not saying that is going to stop this from happening, since most of them just go to a local bar and drink there. The sports community needs to wise up and start making these guys into the role models they should be. Kids look up to them and these guys act like kids.

Well with him being 2x sure did play a major roll in his death. Not so meaningless is it?

I saw an MSNBC investigative report about 7 years ago that it is proven that using your cell phone while driving is as equal to driving drunk. So, when you that into the mix he was an accident waiting to happen. He had 3 strikes against him. I hope a least one young person learns from this incident.

I think r1ch's point, and I agree with this, is that it isn't usually people at or just over the legal limit, .08, .09, .10, that get into wrecks. It's people like this guy at .15, .20, whatever.

Of course I just hit a deer, trashed the Mustang, and hadn't had a single drink.

I vote for the Role Model,... too many bad examples for kids. As stated, another wasted death that could have been easily avoided.

The AP had some radio station high cam footage of him slamming into the tow truck. It is to bad but drunk and on the cell phone is pretty distracting thinking about it.

Big Al, reportedly at 2m35s remaining (1m13s elapsed) on the vid below is the moment of impact.

Note that Josh's vehicle was driving towards the stopped two truck (from left to right towards highlighted circle), was in the left lane, and blocked by another car in the right lane as he approached...

This whole thing now just pisses me off. Originally, I thought/found it a tragedy, as this was someone I knew of from school. I read articles throughout the week saying that he was on a bender, but chose to ignore it because some of it was unsubstantiated. I heard the reports this afternoon of the 2X factor, plus the dope, and I was upset. Now watching the video, he was hauling ass compared to the rest of traffic....on top of being FUBAR'd. I am speechless. I am mad. In the end, I guess Darwinism wins. I cannot type any more because I am so mad.
