What the heck and what's the fix?

The photo shows the issue.
Noticed it 10 miles from the gas station.
Yeah, I'm hoping the fix will be something like "spray the ________ down w WD-40" but I know better.
3 days later, it's still the same.

2004-05 instrument cluster issues are VERY common with 2004-05 Sport Tracs with digital ODO's. Call CBM?

So after a few month of intermittent issues, the guage finally stuck at way over Full. Every fuel guage issue I have read about reports the needle behavior being stuck at Empty. I wonder what mechanism makes this behave different.
I read that the slosh unit sends a ohm signal. Would a ground create a stronger signal thus push the needle to hard?
Anyone hear of a sender unit creating this behavior?
