which axle ratio to get 3.55 or 3.73

I am thinking of getting a 2006 F150 2 wheel drive w/ 5.4 V8.

I have an option of 3.55 or 3.73 rear axle ratio, (non-limted or limited).

I will not be doing much off road driving, mostly in town and some highway.

I will be pulling a Carolina Skiff boat from GA to FL, from time to time.

I would like to get an axle that would be strong for in town driving and maybe

good torque for towing. I guess that I do not need the limited slip due the fact that

I will be on roads or concrete most of the time.So which do you guys think

might work best for me?

3.73 limited slip.

If those are the only two choices then go for the 3.73 ratio!



A couple years ago I owned a '97 F-150 with the 3.55's and hated it! It was always shifting in and out of overdrive, even when running empty at normal highway speeds. Also the limited slip axle is the way to go as it will help the traction on wet or slippery roads.



There is really no major difference in MPG between the two ratios and the towing capacity is considerably higher with the 3.73's.

Get the 3.73 Limited slip.... It will help on slippery boat ramps...

No matter you decision I would think you'd make a huge mistake not getting the limited Slip. You live in an environment that is prone to snow as well as have intentions of putting a bot in and out of a wet slippery ramp.



The 3.55 would be better for the ramp over the 3.73. That said, I'd still get the 3.73 as over all your economy will be better and allow for slightly later shifts.
