Who likes 1-piece fiberglas tonneaus?

I'm still doing my research on tonneau covers. Unfortunantely, many of the manufacturers with the advanced designs are not offering them in pre-'07 models for the Sport Trac. Perhaps the one I saw I liked best (a two-piece cover from Top Dawg) is only offerred for the newer ST's. Ditto for the Extang Trifecta.



Perhaps one good thing however about having an older truck is that some of the makers are selling off their old inventory at bargain rates. I'm giving thought to a one-piece fiberglass cover from this outfit -

I was leaning toward the two-piece design (i.e. the Advance Cover), but am exploring my options (and shopping for the best deal!).



Who here has a one-piece fiberglass cover? What do you like / not like about it?

I tried to get the Snuglid that Bill mentioned, but I couldn't find a location that had them east of the Mississippi River or that would ship it. So, I ordered the LT Sport Cover, but I don't believe it is made any longer. When I ordered mine over a year ago, the company said they were discontinuing that model, but had another in the works. It is much lighter than most covers and one of the lowest profile ones around. I can lift it off the truck myself, but prefer to have another person since it is pretty cumbersome. I have never had a water or fitment issue. Installation was a breeze. With that said, the locking mechanism did fall off at one point. I called up the company and they sent a new lock out very quickly, top notch customer service.

I also had the LT, was a great top at I think 35 lbs, had water issues, tons of lock problems.

I think they were taken over bt lazor light?

We have a LEER. I bought it from an offroad, aftermarket outfit, in Cosmopilis WA. They asked for the paint code and ordered it. They then installed it when it arrived. Think it took about a week to show up. Our sportrac was a new 2001. Think I paid around $700.00. I have not had problem a problem with it and would buy the same again. It fits, the paint matches and We can lock it. It was just a great deal for us and we are very happy with it. I would think that any shop that sells canopies would be able to fix you up. I prefer the oem style or any folding type.... I simply put too much stuff in the back that would not fit under a 1 piece cover..

I think the one-piece fiberglass covers painted to match the vehicle, look sharp, so I rate them number 1 for looks. However they are far less versitile than a hinged folding cover. So I will have to choose function over beauty when it comes to tonneau covers.

I had a fiberglass Toneau on my Ranger. I agree it looked sharp, but when it came to hauling stuff that was higher then the bed it was a pain in the ass. I much prefer the factory cover that is easily removable. Fiberglass looks good but not recommended.

i love my one piece toneau. Its made by Lo-Rider and has the hydraulic supports. It is easy to remove incase that you may need to be hauling larger cargo, but it locks and covers my band's amplifiers or drums when we are on the road. not to mention it looks sharp as hell and gives the back end another inch or so in height so it really levels it out nicely in regards to the rest of the truck. check it out.

I'm happy with my SnugLid. It wraps around the bedrails, keeps out the weather, can be removed by 4 pins and 2 people, and is very low profile as opposed to the A.R.E. which in my opinion is too tall, and detracts from the overall sleek look that I was going for.

I always thought of getting one of the SnugLid's, then put an electrical ram at each corner of the bed, so the cover would rise up to align with the roof of the cab. Then put some of those roll up plastic panels that attach with buttons to give it that cap look. So one day, it could be a cap... could be a cover... or a good place to sleep.



But to the thread... I own an OEM, I like it.

Before we put our cap on we had a we had a one piece toneau that would be easy to paint. I will post a pic later.

I guess it's according to whether you go for function or looks. I have a one-piece that I love the looks of, but it can be a pain when I'm wanting to haul anything sizable. Basicly, it made my truck bed a really big trunk but I'm fine with that. It is made by Covermaster and was painted to match prior to shipping. I don't actually have any idea who Covermaster is though since I ordered it through a local shop.

I like the OEM two piece cover - mostly.



I can take it off in less than a minute if I need to haul something big (Like the refrigerator I hauled for the in-laws)



Promlem - NOT WATER TIGHT!



That pisses me off - no matter what I do - it leaks at the tailgate side - grrrr. I ordered Trailseal from Dingo and should be getting that in soon. Hopefully, that will fix the problem.



Other than that, the two piece is very functional for using every day hauling small stuff.

I have the advance cover and would NOT recomend it! I have had it for 2 yrs now and it is the worst $500 I have spent. There is a new company that puts out one like the advance and they claim theirs to be weather proof and it's about $500 if I remember right. The problem with mine is-#1. It's not water tight(which I new when I bought it), #2. The seal on the hinge is all but completely gone due to opening the cover in the freezing weather, #3. I broke one of the lift tabs trying to open it when it was cold out & #4. On of the black rubber peices that are glued on the opening latches came off. Look in Truckin' magazine, I think that is where I saw that other cover.

I personally dont like solid/hard covers. If you put anything in the back that is taller than the bed, what do you do? I like my Extang soft style.
