George, a spry, elderly gentleman, was having his anual check up. Upon completion, the Dr. asked George if he had any questions.

George said that, in fact, he did. But it concerned his wife. He expressed concern to the Dr. that his wife might be having hearing problems, but he wasn't sure how to confirm, or even approach her on such a matter.

The Dr. suggested that George begin by going to another room other than the one his wife was in and begin asking her "What's for dinner, dear?" Then, if there was no response, he should move closer to his wife and repeat. He could do this untill his wife responded and then he would know the severity of the problem and discuss it with her.

Well, George agreed that this was an excellent suggestion. So, when he got home, he went to the den, as his wife was in the kitchen, and began asking "What's for dinner, dear?". Not hearing a response, he moved closer and repeated his question. He performed this act until he was standing with his wife in the kitchen. Again, he repeated, "What's for dinner, dear?". Suddenly, his wife turned around, took a quick look at George, and said, .........."For the fifth time, George, we're having chicken!".
