I took her Jeep Liberty in the shop today for service (mainly because I am too dang busy to work on it). They did the following:
Change transmission fluid/filter
Change front and rear axle oil (synthetic, LSD in rear)
Change transfer case oil
New front brake pads, machined rotors, changed brake fluid.
Rotate/balanced tires
Wash inside and out.
$635.
I'm a bit ticked, but then again this is the first repair bill that I have spent on it since we bought it new (2002, 52,000 miles). Everything else has just been oil and filters myself.
Speaking of tires, it has the GoodCrap Wrangler SR-A tires that are like 100 times WORSE than the RT-S tires! The SR-As have at least 3/4 of their tread remaining at 52,000 miles, but they hydroplane whenever the pavement is damp. They roar so loudly at highway speeds you can barely hear the stereo. The traction in snow/ice is non-existant. I HATE GOODYEAR TIRES! Anyway, wife really wants new tires this month before the snow starts flying, even with AWD/4WD, her Liberty is really treacherous because of the bad tires. I will probably go ahead and get them, even though the thought of trading the dang thing in and getting something new has crossed my mind.
She drives 120 miles a day high speed commute. The Liberty is very comfortable to her (I can't fit in it very well), and she likes it. She likes/needs the 4WD for snow. It gets 20 MPG, so I guess I'll keep it.
$635. Grrrrrr.
