Microsoft: Where do you want to go today?

Apple: Where do you want to be tomorrow?

Linux: Are you guys coming or what?

The ability to rent movies and have them expire after their due date is genius. I have for soo long been trying to find a way to rip DVD's to my computer so I could have a digital library of movies.

I am looking forward to this OS coming out, but I don't think I will be making the upgrade for at least 6 months after the release date. I have three computers, two of which are not 64 bit.. so there is not to much of a drive to get Vista.

snooze there r 2 free programs found online called : DVD Shrink 3.1 and RipIt4Me. DVD shrink will let u choose what stuff on the dvd u want to keep and dont want and will compress the files so they dont take so much space. Ripit4me, is setup for those dvds that r copyrighted and allows u deincrypt them and burn them. course with ripit4me u have to download 2 other files for it work right, but its in the tabs area and it will have links to what ya need to update with. i aint admiting to burning dvds or nothing, but thats what i know. lol now on the topic, i dunno haha

This is one of the best DVD 'backup' programs out there. Of course you can only 'backup' DVD's you have purchased. I have been told this program is available for free on file sharing networks such as LimeWire but I wouldn't know anything about that. LOL

Shesh, that was a sad article... Lots of Good, and the Bad was just bickering about things that arent important really...

Fact is, Microsoft is a stellar corporation and will continue to expand the horizons of Vista with new updates, etc...

I cant wait for one, I just upgraded my monitor to support HDCP, and have 2 8800 Nvidia graphcis cards for the new DirectX 10, and HDCP support as well.

Im ready, are you!?@#

Rodger,

I agree that DR-DOS was better, but the MS-DOS/DR-DOS battle is already over. Digital Research may have been a better product, but the company that produced the software was a failure. The same could be said of Lotus Smart Suite. I found it to be better than Microsoft's Office Suite back in the day, but that software is almost unknown and the company was bought by IBM.

In an open market, businesses pretty much work like Darwin stated evolution works. The fittest companies survive and the weak ones die off. A company can have the best product in the World, but still fail because of poor management, lack of resources or poor marketing.

Blaming Microsoft for the failure of Digital Research is like blaming the U.S. for the failures of Ethiopia.

I'm anxious to get my free upgrade for my new laptop. I've been using the Office 2007 and new IE7 for a few months now, so I don't think it will be a big transition for me. :)

LOL Stellar company! Living in the Seattle area and all the contacts I have at MS, they are no way a Stellar Company. Their products are above average. Working for them is a whole different story. I know several people that work there in various groups and a lot of HR people that leave the company because they are run very poorly.

I was lucky enough to attend the official Microsoft developer Vista / Office 2007 kick off conference all day yesterday.

The features they were really talking up were the tighter security, the quick search, better window switching and Aero. Funny thing is, all those features have long been available for Linux and Mac OSX. I was excited about Vista walking in the conference, but walking out? I decided that I'm going to stick with XP at home. Vista really just doesn't live up to the hype and is way overpriced for what you get.

Office on the other hand I was quite impressed with. It is still overpriced (Especially for home use), but they definitely had some great looking tools added in there and the sharepoint integration looks very promising.

What has MS ever done that is innovative? Little to none. They take others ideas and modify it, then give it away.

Execution is everything. Microsoft may not be the most innovative, they may not come up with all the ideas first, but they have done more than most all other software companies. I worked for IBM for 7 years and quit when they f'ed up OS/2 (the product I was working on for almost 5 of those years). It was clear then (in '94) that Microsoft was a force to be reckoned with.

I'll wait til a free copy shows up on the internet, then I'll think about switching one of my PCs from Linux.
