Whenever I turn on the a/c it takes about 5 minutes before it starts blowing cold - it has been like this for a year or so. Why is this do you think?
a/c clutch won't engage until several minutes

I think your low on 134A......
could just need a small can, Could have a leak, could be a couple of things...
I just had to add a small can to mine, it was doing the same thing.... I will check for leaks come the cooler weather..
ALSO just don't add a can, you need the Gauge to guide you so you don't over fill the system and cause a problem..
