If someone has a t-stat from their trac laying around. Can you take a measurement of the OD.

Been to 2 parts stores. What they have on the shelf appears too large, diameter. To my knowlege the o-ring gasket fits to the outside of the t-stat. The o-ring they show me is smaller than the T-stat.

Comparing the t-stat to the housing. They both agree, their item looks too large, OD.

Its tough when you get down to one car. Need the correct part from the start.

Thanks

Does this help.... See link

Eddie- This was the original thermostat when I bought the ST used.

No coolant in radiator, only rusty water. O ring same OD as T-stat flange.

Thanks Steve,

I will take my ruler to the parts store.

By your measurement. The ones they showed me were diffinitly larger OD.

The O-ring they had was about 3/8" smaller than their t-stat flange.

I bet the o-ring was correct, bur the t-stat was for a 4.6L

Odd thing is 2 stores had the same thing.

The Fel-Pro 35617 upper o-ring gasket I used was oversized.

Didn't want to reassemble and go back to store. Seems to be OK.

Reason for taking apart was a pinhole leak in the lower housing, below the joint.

Put silicone seal into the bolt sleeve and temporarily through bolted.

Let dry and replaced with factory screw. Solved, pinhole leak gone.
