Aftermarket steering wheel?

I know there's at least 1 member who changed their steering wheel out for an aftermarket one (23Ballistic). What adapter kit works? What wheels work? How do you get around the airbag and sensors? I'm getting pissed with how bad the leather looks on my wheel, and Ford probably wants well more than I want to give them for a new wheel that'll peel again. Granted, I'll have to do something about the cruise control, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I would also like to know if there is a solution to moving the cruise controls.

I would think the first thing to do is check local laws. Removing the airbag is illegal from what I have heard and at least down here in miami, cops give alot of the tuner/ricer crowd tickets for having them removed/replaced when they are leaving car shows and stuff. I did do the replacement but went back to stock do to some obstacles. 1. air bag sensor. need to find a work around. Maybe WFoy can disable via program though I don't know if the pcm has anything to do with the sensors. The airbag sensor on the dash will flash and ring every 30 seconds if not disabled and the airbag is removed. 2. You're going to lose your horn. Ford uses a type of ribbon cable (don't know what else to call it) for the horn and air bag sensor. 3. there is no adapter (of the shelf) that will cover the plastic steering column surround. Chances are you'll have to have one custom made or be very creative. 4. I used the adapter off an older model f-150. If anyone wants it it's for sale. You will also have issues finding info since pretty much most cars with airbags aren't being fitted for aftermarket steering wheels so manufacturers won't be able to help much.

Sounds like your best bet may be a cover....

You can have an auto custom shop take your steering wheel and add what you like.. The last price I got from a place on line was about $400.00 bucks.....

I think the airbag is a federal 50 state issue...has to be on any street vehicle...if it came with it...

So much for that idea. Maybe I can get it recovered with a "good" leather. Thanks for the replies...
