Air conditioner woes

I have A/c issues and I bought a can of freon from the store with a cheap gauge on it, hooked it up as per instructions. I watched the gauge go from 0 (green) to 200(red). The compressor kicked on then shut off at the red zone. So I assume the high pressure switch is shutting the compressor off then when it hits 0 the compressor will kick on again, so the compressor is short cycling. Is there anything I should check before I take it to a shop.

You won't find a leak with a light unless there is dye in the system. Very common points of leakeag include the hoses or the compressor itself. If your system is losing refrigerant that fast then the leak will be VERY EASY to find
