holy crap.

my ankle is swollen like an eggplant and the pain is real fun.

i get it a couple of times a year and the worst is in the knee. when i had my rotator cuff surg the doc said the pain would be unbearable for a few days right after surgery. nope, doesn't compare to this.

i am avoiding getting the fluid drained as it is no fun but if it doesn't go down soon i may have no choice.

i have gout, worse in the knees.

very painful.

just getting over a week long attack,

try cherry juice or cherries, i take allopurinol daily and colchicine occassionally.

seems you have to excrete gout early upon an onset. after it gets in your joints and swells, its too late.

good luck with it, i feel your pain...

Yep, Same as budfromballground said. I take cherry extract fom puritian pride 2 pills a day. Allopurinol one a day. The colchicine will clear it but it also makes you sick for a day or so. Doc says take it till you crap your pants or throw up. If your lucky it only happens once....and your awake.....and not at the same time. Good luck

bud,/ itybitybob,

thx

will try the cherries, but i am going to ask the doc for something to nip it before it comes on as you mentioned.

nice bday gift for memorial day weekend :fire:

good luck with yours :haveabeer:

Gary...go to the doc and have it drained....not too painful if your doc knows his stuff. Have the fluid analyzed....in my case it turned out to be pseudogout....caused by calcium chrystals not uric acid.....treatments are almost the same once it flares up...but causes are very different! :supercool:

I've been the assisting nurse on dozens of knee "drainings." The worst part is getting the skin numbed up...lidocaine burns like hell for a few seconds. Nearly every patient was so much more relieved afterward.

Drink lots of water to help flush it out of your system, believe it or not, it does help to walk, if you are able, movement seems to loosen it up, at least for me. It hurts under my kneecap.

Finally easing up to a bearable level. Monitor what you eat very carefully, Red Meat, Pork alcohol, seafood, basically all the good stuff will cause you to have gout flairs. And you can eat some things and not have a problem and the next time WHAM! You are suffering....I guess it depends on your metabolism and other factors on how it prcess or breakdown the proteins to cause excess urine acid in your blood. It seems that I can eat a hamburger then nothing, yet different day and it hits you. This time I ate a Subway meatball sub with jalepenos...It was very tasty but not worth the pain, should have got the chicken:)....

Spicy foods can also triggers attacks. I have grown fond of the Veggie Pizzas from Papa Johns. Try it you will like it....Also McDonalds burgers, Taco Bell beef?, Wendys Chili and double stacks, and Microwaved red meat, such as a left over steak or burger for some reason really gets me. But it is important for know what affects you. take mental notes of everything you eat....Hope it goes well for you, I would not wish Gout on anyone.....

And itybitybob is right about the colchicine, it will make you crap like a goose, and suddenly.

So be really careful with that stuff, It's tiny pills that pack a whollup. But if you excrete it out early thru your BM, you will get relief faster....Good Luck Gary.....Hope everything comes out ok....

thx everyone.... where else to find advise and the best people, mysporttrac.com :supercool:

well it seems to be going down. yesterday went on a mission to find cherry extract to avail. found cherry juice concentrate and now the swelling seems to be goin' down. don't remember having it this long.

my flair ups dont seem to be food related, but i still am going to a rheumatologist to prevent these from coming back

thx again and apprc the advise. :haveabeer:
