I received several emails from Caymen regarding the challenge where I asked him to prove he had a CCW permit. He has sent me what I deem to be sufficient proof that he was telling the truth and an I'm making a formal appology to him and any other members here who thought I was off target in calling him out.

Here is a copy of the appology email I sent Caymen:

Tom/Caymen,

I got your email and proof that you do indeed have a CCW permit. Thank you for your email and your tone of sincerity, and I will reply in kind.

I am making this a formal apology to you, and I will also post a copy of this apology on the MyST.com web site. When I am proven wrong I man enough to admit it and you have proven that you were not lying about your CCW permit.

I am sorry I called you a liar and I hope you will accept my apology.

I also hope this will end our feud and that we can both behave in a rational manner despite our differences in opinions.

Rich,

I applaud you. Too often people entrench themselves on the internet and escalate and re-escalate.

When things have quieted down a little I would like to return to our discussion regarding carrying at home.

Truley see no need to post a public apology, but do what you have a need to do.

Is quite comical to see the rants and raves of REAL MEN:cheeky: carry on about their CCW permits, how they pack guns around the house, yada, yada, how they are going to blow away anyone that threatens them in any way,Its actually all B.S,people on this site that carry on like that are unadultrated idiots, just my two cents.

Grow up morons, life is not like the cowboy movies you watched as a kid.

Didn't you say you wanted to shoot me with your Barrett? How I would be an easy target and you are such a bad@$$ that you could do it at a mile away?

Pot calling the kettle black here?

bill,

I called Caymen a liar on this public forum, so I feel it is only right that I appogize on this same public forum. It's just that simple.

I do agree with you about the excessive rants of the guys here who think that having a gun gives them some extended level of manhood...a gun becomes their phallic symbol, and they think "The bigger the gun the bigger the man".

Cayman, you were challanged to a duel after one of your BS tirades if you recall correctally, extolling the virtues of I believe your popgun .380,or one of your other man tools.

Richard,to each his own,do what you need to do.

Responsible gun owners would NEVER carry on like Tom do's about his CCW permits,His new found expertise in gun slinging and his willingness to kill on site another Human being, that he deems a threat to him or his family (shoot now,ask questions later mentality) at least on a public forum.

Anyone passing a backround check, pay the tab, jump through the hoops can get a CCW,is no big deal (hopefully a complete mental exam will be implimented in the future).

I can gaurantee you that 99% of Toms talk is B.S.

It may be one thing to be prepared, but unless you are actually faced with the prospect of killing a human being, and actually do so even in a wartime setting, you will have nothing to be proud of after the fact, you will push the experiance way back in your mind and never talk about it again and try to never think about it.

Sadley all of this guntalk,on this site,is just another example of the degradation of American society, carry on boys.

I applaud the attempt at reconciliation and spreading more cheer and goodwill toward our brothers and sisters here. However, I cannot imagine why anyone would care whether or not someone had a CCW permit, or how it would matter to anyone as to what kind of weapon someone chose to carry if they chose to carry.

Gavin,

I think the larger issue here is the "Internet Tough Guy" syndrome at play. The anonymity and disconnected nature of the Internet, for some, causes or allows them to act out, to vent, and to otherwise express themselves in a manner that is much more confrontational than they might otherwise normally do in a face-to-face exchange.

It is somewhat like what happens with road rage. When in a vehicle, one is in a bubble, isolated, and seemingly protected. The car becomes an extension of one's person. If within that car a person feels wronged, or threatened, they may use that vehicle to try ot "get back" at the offender.

My experience is that more often than not, the person that lashes out on the Internet, or in their car via road rage, typically has some significant issues in their life. Often anger control issues, control issues in general (lack of control), feelings of low self-esteem, and generally are the more passive type. All of this tends to make that type of person feel "kicked around" in the real world, always getting the short end of the stick, never able to assert themselves.

These folks tend to over-inflate themselves when on the Internet, and those same types drive aggresively and take their frustrations out on others. The internet, their car, is their domain...where they can be strong, important, be the person that they can respect, or can force others to respect.

So, I challenge everyone here...

If you find yourself getting rude to others on the net, if you find yourself biting people's heads off online, if you get all bent out of shape when some knob cuts you off in traffic to the point that you are going to "show them", or "teach them a lesson", well, you might need a little "self examination."

We can't control what others do, or say. But we can control our response. We get to choose the person we are.

Hence the reason there are some people on this board I don't entertain with my thoughts. There are some that just can't hold reasonable discussion. If you say "It's hot outside" they are going to say, "You're an idiot, it's not hot, it's humid." Or they pull facts from all over the internet to prove that in Congo it is much more hot and humid and I should be thankful.

Even worse is the people that can't even make those kind of absurd points without adding in personal attacks and cursing. I can't help but think what these people are like in their daily lives. Why are they so angry? How could my opinion on the internet make somebody so upset that they verbally attack me?

I think TJR hit the nail on the head.

Hugh,

All I can say is keep posting, keep discussing, but don't sink to their level.

I don't know how many times I have typed up a post then rewritten it to soften when responding to one of these Internet Tough Guys. I choose not to be "that guy", so I tone it back, and try to keep it positive. For some here, they get off on getting people going. I'm not going to give those guys the satisfaction.

Cayman, you were challanged to a duel after one of your BS tirades if you recall correctally, extolling the virtues of I believe your popgun .380,or one of your other man tools.

Actually you threatened to kill me. That is a fact. Please drop it and let it go.

RichL and I have come to an agreement.

As Hugh said, you make a statement and someone has to prove you wrong. I said I carry my gun 99.9% of the time, I assume it is understood that 99.9% of the time it is legal for me to do so. I say I invite those that almost killed Eddies brother-in-law to my house to try it, I get called a vigilante. Break into my home while I am here and see what happens. Maybe I will get killed defending myself, maybe I won't. I will defend myself and I refuse to be a victim.

My uncle lives in a $350,000 house in a nice community and he was robbed by some punks. As my cousin was walking in the front door, they were walking out the back.

If someone actually thinks moving to a "safer" location is the answer to crime is just a statistic waiting to happen. Criminals "hunt" in rich neigborhoods because there is more money in the area. I live close to one of the malls in Akron. It is not a great mall, but it is nice. People get car jacked there all the time. The mall in the righer part of time is even worse.

Do I carry a gun because I want to be a bad ass? Not at all. I carry a gun because I know there are some very evil people on this earth. Plus, if I knew when I was going to be robbed at the grocery store, I would stay home that day.

Theresa walked out of a store 10 minutes before it was robbed. Fortunatly, nobody was killed or hurt, but if she was walking out 10 minutes later, it could have been different.

An owner of a pizza show was working when a 17 year old punk decided to stick a sawed off shotgun into the pizza shop owners face. When the kid went to adjust the grip on the shotgun, the store owner pulled his 9mm out and shot the kid in the chest 4 times. The kid got up and ran to the counter. The owner shot his 3 more times. The kid ran down the street and died. Was the shop owner a murderer or did the kid commit suicide? In my opinion, the kid could have been a murderer that day. Fortunatly, for the good guy, he can continue to make pizza's and live the American dream. This pizza shop was not in the ghetto.

Crime happens every day. How you react to the crime is a different story. You can take it and pray the bad guy doesn't take your life or you can stand up for yourself and protect your life if need be.

Some of you seem to practice the opposite of alchemy, turning gold into s***. Act civil or I'll lock this one too.

Leave the initial post and just delete the rest. How an apology post can turn into this is just plain pitiful! It's a wonder anyone new joins and that there is anyone left here except for about 4 of the above posters!

Sad !!:sad::sad::soap:

If you look back at my posts you will see that I maintain a level headed and rational argument when it comes to carrying a firearm. You may not agree with my arguments, and that's okay, but I don't restort to name calling or trying to psycho analyize why someone thinks the way they do.

On the other hand, many people who are against guns or are making a point against those of us who choose to carry firearms like to tell us 'why' we think the way we do. Typically (and directed at no specific individual) :

1. My private parts are smaller than other mens or I am unhappy with the size of my private parts.

2. I am insecure

3. I feel more macho carrying a firearm and it somehow completes something that is missing from me that all other men who don't carry feel.

4. I am paranoid.

5. I am a moron and I need to grow up.

None of these are rational arguments. We can rationally discuss if having a firearm around children is safe, or if you do have a firearm around children how you keep it safe. We can rationally discuss the pros and cons of carrying a firearm at all times where it is legal to do so. There are all kinds of rational discussions we can have but it's difficult to have that discussion when people resort to name calling and stereotyping.

As a responsible firearm owner and someone who carries is pretty much everywhere it is legal to do so I purposly avoid the bravido. I DO NOT want to get into a confrontation where I have to unholster my firearm. I DO NOT want to hurt or kill anyone. I WILL NOT go running towards anything that appears include drawn weapons or gun fire and I will, in fact, turn tail and run if given the choice.

And my manhood isn't THAT small...

Will E,

Hopefully you don't think I was attacking you. I'm not against guns, or people who carry them.

My main issue is with those that act more confrontational on-line than they would face-to-face.

A majority of the issues on this website (and on the internet for that matter) would not exist IF people would treat each other the same, here, as they would if they were talking in person.

TJR

No tom,I made no threat to kill you,I said you would lose the duel.

And the B.S continues to flow:) from the mouth of the manchild.

I got two things to say.....

1. Rich and Tom, I applaud you gentlemen on the handling of this situation on this public forum. It shows your level of class and maturity. Maturity and class found on this site (regarding a good majority of members anyway).:supercool:

2. A good friend of mine once told me "Guns don't kill people, stupid people do!"
