Hello guys, I need help with the next problem: when there is no audio signal playing in my HTPC there is an annoying "HISSSSSS" sound coming out but once there is any kind of audio signal playing, the "Hissssss" looks like almost dissapear. I have the HTPC connected to an external home audio system thru SPDIF digital audio signal cable. I will really appreciate your help, THANKS!!!

Hiss only happens when there is no sound being played?

But sound does play normally?

If that is the case, my guess is it is picking up interferance from an unproperly shielded cable.

So upgrade your SPDIF cable.

Is it the S/PDIF that looks like a single RCA cable, or are you using the Fiber optic TOSLINK connection? If you are using the single RCA type, then yes, could be picking up some interference. Try a good shielded cable and it may fix your problem. However if you are using the optical TOSLINK, there should not be any interference from the cabling, since it is pretty hard to interfere with light :)
