Hey guys,

I know it's been well posted about the torsion twist for lowering the gen1s but my sister's boyfriend had my ST up on the rack the other day as we were looking to lower it and he was concerned that there was only about an inch of the torsion bolt to back out and said he didn't think we'd get the 2inch drop out of it. He was also concerned that it would ride extremely hard and "knock" or "rattle" with time because of the newly added stress. Anyone with comforting words or suggestions?

There are 2 projects done under Ride & Handling (click on Projects on the left, then Ride and Handling). Also, Explorer Express (site sponsor) has a lowering kit. I have not heard anyone complain about the ride being too stiff because that is one of the issues with the gen. 1 ST's, especially the '01 & '02. In '03 Ford made the frame stiffer, but I have not read any complaints about lowering making the ST too stiff. I have ridden in a lowered ST (mine is not lowered), and the ride is just fine.

Here's a link to the first one:

Lowering will actually slightly soften the ride, but the reduced suspension travel is what can cause the harsh feeling. You can trim your original bumpstops or install shorter ones to help gain a bit of travel back.
