There is a recall for this ! 2003 and later. I had the problem fixed under warranty and wrote a complaint to the NHTSA website then received a recall notice from FORD. What happened with my trac was the 3rd evaporator hose (facing the left side of the truck its located to the right of the fuel neck) coming off the fuel neck became detached and positioned itself inside the wheel well. and sucked up water from the wheel well. When filling the tank, the pump would cut off and fuel would shoot out of the neck under pressure, since there wasn't a filter to vent to. The Tech said he drained a larger amount of water from the canisters. They are located above the spare tire and the connections which trigger the check-engine-light are located just aft of the left rear wheel. I had to reattach the sending unit's hose to the canister because I got a light after the fix (rush job ?.) Its an easy repair, the dealer drops the tire, unbolts the flat canisters and removes the LR wheel well. My father has a 2002, there is only 2 hoses coming from the fuel neck and he hasn't any problems.
