Actually he could have just made the first down and they would have had another chance. That was the exact moment when a quarterback needed to think in terms of a full back and try to run over somebody to make it happen.

This is hard for me because as a Steelers fan I hate them both. I guess I'd have liked to see Romo make the TD. There's no crying in football. Sack up and get 'em next year.

I don't care for the Cowboys, but I have to say that I think that a lot of people--both Cowboys fans and haters--are being way too harsh on Romo. How can anyone say he choked twice on the play? Yes, he fumbled the snap--but then he tried to scramble it in (or at least for the first down), and was only stopped by a shoestring tackle. That definitely wasn't a second choke by any means. And he's one of the main reasons they were in field goal range in the first place.

If you're looking for a goat of the game, it's not Romo. The one people should be looking at is Terry Glenn, and his butterfingers fumble for the safety.

Bill V, sure the 2nd choke wasn't as severe, but given the magnitude of the first choke (the bobble), once he recovered, had open field, and one guy to beat (and had a good stride and a half ahead of him) he should have been in the end-zone. Those who bobble choke, those who hesitate are lost. Romo could have redeemed himself, instead he looked like a 2x chump.

As Adam said, see Detmer and the last play of the Eagles yesterday to see what it's supposed to look like. And it was pi$$ing rain on that play...Detmer grabbed it, turned it, tipped it at a nice angle, as he does EVERY time.

Sorry TJR, but I don't buy that. Maintaining a stride and a half lead is rather hard for anyone to do when you're starting in a kneeling position, and your opponent has a running start...

Bill V, you don't have to buy it because I'm not selling anything. Go to Youtube, watch the clips a few times. Romo got deer in the headlights syndrome when he should have been barreling into the EZ.

As for the "starting from a knealing position" line, he made at least 10 strides before being taken down, and the tackler actually tripped on someone about the same time Romo took off....Romo had open field, and just got beat.

Listen to the announcer...sounds like he even thought Romo was going to make it ("...and Romo is going to run to the end zone...").

Sure, like I said, not making it to the EZ wasn't a big choke, but man, I would think that most every fan out there (regardless the side) sure thought he was going to make it, and upon reply, I still can't figure out why he didn't.

P.S. Look at the clip, seconds 30, 31, 32...why is Roma going so far out. The SHORTEST distance between two points is a straight line, and he continued to go outside, losing ground all the way, when at that point he had a straight shot to the EZ.

Also, there was a 1:14 left...if he could have held on to the ball, wouldn't if have been 1st down or good position for an almost certain touchback (didn't actually watch the game)? Another choke possibly? ;)

Hey, it's easy to Monday morning QB...in this case, the guy just got beat...beat bad. He looks really slow.

I have nothing against Dallas. I'm really not that big of a football fan these days. I just find humor in the conspiracy nuts and those that are quick to defend/forgive people that get paid millions a year to catch a ball and stand it up, and can't even get that right.

I can't play the video at work, so I can't review it the way you did--but Romo didn't fumble the ball. He was ruled down by contact, about a yard short of the first down--the ball came out after he was already down. Seattle took over on downs, not on a fumble recovery.

Also, as for the touchback you mention--the only possible way a touchback could have happened is if he had fumbled the ball, and it had gone out of the end zone untouched. And then it would have been Seattle's ball. So there's no possible way that would have been considered a good thing for Dallas.

I'll admit that further review of the video may quickly change my mind--but from the live view and the small number of replays I saw, it looked to me like Romo was trying to get as wide as possible to get around the tackler that was pursuing him from the end zone, and may not have even seen the tackler behind him. Outside is where the open space was. Should he have cut it upfield earlier? Possibly--but I don't fault his attempt to go outside either.

I didn't see the tackler trip--so if that's the case, that does even it up a bit. But generally, defensive backs are faster on their feet than quarterbacks, so Romo's getting caught still doesn't rate as a choke IMHO.

I'm no Cowboy fan either--but I do think it's harsh to blame someone for a loss (as millions of people are doing) when he leads a comeback that nearly wins a game, makes one small mistake that causes the comeback to fail, and was not the one (re: Glenn and the defense) who put them in the position where they needed to come back in the first place.

The Fall of the Romo Empire.

If I was a Cowboy fan I would give everything I owned away and go join a cult.

Bill V, you just highlighted our fundamental disagreement with four simple words:
...makes one small mistake...

I don't see it that way.

That's one of those inexcusable mistakes that when made clear the slate of all the GOOD one has done in a game, or in a season, and makes that person pretty much "choke artist" of the year (or at least the game).

TJR

TJR--So if you're blaming Romo on this, it sounds like you're saying that he's more at fault than Glenn (for fumbling away the safety) or the defense (for letting Seattle score the go-ahead TD so easily)? If so, then yes, I disagree. If no, then please clarify.

They choked, end of story!

And Seattle deserved to win playing the way they did? They shouldn't have had made the playoffs but I suppose when you get a division of lesser quality teams.
