cracking noise

I just bought a 2004 ST. On uneven road there is a cracking noise in the front and sometimes also the rear of the car passenger side.

Do shocks make noise to indicate replacement.

Yes, the stock shocks suck and wear out quick, also look under the truck to check out the body mounts, sway bar end links. Keep us updated on what you find.

i bet the "cracking" is the ball joints. i drilled and tapped a grease zerk on my stock ones

Not if it's coming from the right rear too.

It might only sound like it's coming from the rear. +1 on the ball joints, noise from the rear is often the tailgate hinges, so pull it off and spray some white lithium grease on them.
