Looks like a lot went wrong with this little joy ride. I guess you can assume guilt by association up to a point, but shooting an unarmed person is going a bit too far. Also, three shots at short range seems to be excessive. Seems like this police officer wanted the suspect to be dead.

That's the second story I've read in the last two weeks of a police officer doing that. What's going on? My brother and brother-in-law are both police officers and I know they are under alot of stress but damn! I'd have to see this tape to really make my mind up on who's wrong and right.;)

Based on the story as we know it, it does sound like the officer was/is out of line. Bottom line, hope the truth comes out and then we can make a better call from there....

Maybe the cop was a little wound up after that 100mph chase that ended in a crash and maybe the guy got up a little too fast for his comfort. Seems kinda like the capital punishment debate a few weeks ago...if the guy that got shot wasn't doing anything wrong this wouldn't have happened. I too want to see the tape.

The thing that pissed me off the most is this.

"The deputy, whose name was not released, was placed on paid administrative leave, a routine procedure in officer-involved shootings." he should NOT be getting paid at ALL!

ions-

I am not saying what the police officer did was right or wrong, but what if it was justified? Do you think he should be on leave with no pay? Innocent till proven guilty, so why throw him out with no pay before there is even an investigation?

Now, IF IT WAS NOT JUSTIFIED (which shooting someone 3 times who is unarmed may be wrong), then let him face his consequences. I don't know what exactly happened.

Hell, 100mph and then a crash (100mph and running from the cops IS THREATENING other's lives), so if the cop felt he was in danger, so be it.

Unfortunatly things like that happens. I can't say who is right and who is wrong. As for an officer being on leave without pay, that is a moot point. If the officer is found guilty and he was paid while on leave, should he have to pay that money back with intrest?

Here is another article about a cop that had too big of a chip on his shoulder and a possible cover-up.

Tooooo much java at the doghnut shop for that fellla. He needs to swith to decaf. Yea thats it, sue the doughnut shop for tanking up the cop on caffine and as a result gave him the shakes that caused the gun to inadverdantly go off....... three times ....... yea thats the ticket.

I hope the military doesn't screw him over because of this, unless he's actually proven to have done something wrong.

Ions - ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?

Wait, you're right! Don't wimp out and stop with his pay, though! Lock him up for life or, better yet, execute the cop!

Let's face it, as in all occupations there are cops that are not cut out for the job. It's pretty obvious this cop wasn't. It's going to happen whenever you have a low paying, crappy job that no one wants. Most police forces are desperate these days for new hires, and when your forced to lower your standards just to get fresh bodies, then this **** is going to happen.

Dale,

No matter what is preached, we are all guilty until proven innocent.

Charged with murder, you are locked in jail until you are convicted or proven innocent. Get pulled over for a DUI and refuse to blow in the breathelizer. You are automaticaly charged with a DUI. No court is needed. You loose your license and that is the way it goes.

Innocent until proven innocent, sure...whatever.

If the cop is found not guilty, he should get back pay. If he is found guilty (highly unlikely...There is that whole code of ethics thing that getsa in the way) he should be charged with murder and given the death penalty if needed.

Man was told acouple times to get up and says "i'm getting up" next thing you know he is shot 3 times and while he is screaming in pain is told alot to "Shut the **** up" which is beyond amazing after being shot 3 times to "Shut the **** up". Just makes me sick. Yes I do believe he should pay the money he is paid back if he is guity (which will never happen). Guilty by association? What are you gonna do at 100mph? jump out of the damn car? he has no control over what the driver is doing. The things people get away with no adays is just mind bending.

Sorry, but I still am not going to cry for some bozo that joyrides and is part of a 100mph car chase. The best part about this is that we will weed out one cop that shouldn't be on the job and send a message that you MIGHT want to choose your friends better.
