Caymen - We are presumed guilty by the cops and prosecutors, that is their job. Given what cops deal with every day, I will always give them benefit of the doubt until they are proven wrong. Then I will sing the praises of the prosecutor who nails a bad cop.
Murder charge example - you don't release a dangerous person who has been indicted by a Grand Jury or charged by a DA with evidence. The cop is under supervision while at work. Also, you and I aren't allowed to shoot people at work, the cop is, he just has to be justified. Fine line, I know, but I trust a cop at work more than I trust an indicted murder on his own recognizance.
DUI - In most states refuse to blow, you go to court and, if convicted, get punished.
Nothing is automatic, not even a speeding ticket.
Question - ALL cops go on paid suspension/leave/admin duty following a shooting. Do you think that ALL of them should lose their pay until the investigation is completed? If so, what do we tell the innocent ones who lose cars, homes and credit due to an investigation which gets dragged out for eight weeks or more? Better to handle it this way and cut them off once they are proved guilty. Along with jailing them and exposing them to civil penalties by the victims.
