Drive and reverse not engaging in transmission

I have a 2004 4x4 Sport Trac that has 200,000 miles. Today I was on my way to work and the transmission slipped and drive and reverse acted like neutral. When I put it in high or low there’s a big clunk and then it engages and goes. Park, high and low gear are the only gears that work. I’m hoping the transmission isn’t blown up but that’s what I’m fearing.

At 200K miles, possibility, is good. Did you have a flashing OD light before failure?
Have you ever had a fluid and filter change?

The OD light was not flashing. The two people who had my Sport Trac before me have never changed the fluid or filter. I checked the transmission fluid and it was reddish brown but still clearly red.

Broken reverse band or servo..... Trans is toast...
