I have my main site at carolinalockandkey.com, which will not change.... Here are the other domain names I have until 2 May. I want to drop all but 1 of them, which one do you think I should keep? Now if you were on your smart phone in Sumter and googled for a locksmith "I" would think you would google,,, sumter locksmith,,, or maybe locksmith in sumter,,,??? I'm sooooo confused.... What would you guys google and which site would be the better choice to keep and why? Thanks Thanks Thanks

acarolinalocksmith.com

carolinalocksmith.net

carolinalocksmithsc.com

locksmithinsumter.com

locksmithsumter.com

sumterlocksmith.com

OR maybe a different domain name to make it easier for searches ??????????????

I know, that in bad taste, sorry LaRue! You know I'm ribbin' ya!

IMO, I think the word locksmith should be first. The rest IDK.

When I search I plug what I want first then location.

locksmithsumter.com

sumterlocksmith.com

one of those two, doesn't matter which though as far as google searches are concerned.

Really you don't even need multiple if your site is setup correctly for SEO which is appears to be.. chances are someone is going to google "sumter locksmith" or "locksmith sumter" in both cases your places page is top, and your direct website link is 2-3 behind yellowpages/superpages..

LaRue,

Google's indexing of websites considers more than just the domain name when returning results. For that matter, the domain names themselves aren't as important as other considerations.

For example, there are keyword meta-tags that you can and should include on your web pages that will help to make your results better indexed by Google.

Take a look at the link provided below. I know you author your own website. If you aren't already including meta tags with keywords, you should start now.

LaRue, +1 on what TJR said. If you have the right metadata, you can likely even drop all the other domain names completely...

Thanks guys,,

This what I have now, Meta Tag Block: (all pages) Sumter, South Carolina, Best Locksmith, 24 hour Service Available, Serving Sumter, Shaw AFB, Pinewood, Santee, Manning, Bishopville, Kingstree,Lake City, Camden, and surrounding areas. locksmith, lock, keys, key service, deadbolt, mailbox, padlock, medeco, keyless entry, mobile

It seems to be working, I am at the top in google and 2nd in yahoo.... And people are telling me when the use their phone to find me,, they like the fact I have a website too. sooo I went ahead and dropped the other dot coms and now will just have clk dot com.

Saves ME money..............

Way too go, LaRue. If you really want to get sophisticated you will HTTP redirect your main pages to mobile versions of your website, automatically, so that smaller, tighter versions of your website get displayed on mobile devices such as smart phones, etc. Not a high priority or significant need IF your pages aren't too large and too complex.

I have a lot of phone users,,, so what do I do?????????? Have NO clue! People on phones don't seem to care about page 2-5. Everything they need is on page 1... soooooo tell me how and I will! TANX

LaRue,

Let me try to find a good technical article and I will send it to you as a private message.

UPDATE: I'll just post a link below.

Basically you develop a set of new pages, or a new page that is used for mobile devices. You can even create multiple pages, one each for specific devices.

Then, your main page needs to "detect" the user agent of the browser that the viewer is using on their device, and based on that user agent, redirection of some form to the appropriate version of your page is performed.

The article describes some details. It's not necessarily straightforward, but when done right can be quite powerful...

LaRue,

On my blackberry I also get the 2nd, more simple page.

Great job!

One thing though, on my blackberry, the first/top line wraps into the blue line below, with the last word of that first line ("Key") wrapping and overlaying the blue text on the next line.
