EXHAUST QUESTION

What is a "Y" pipe and what purpose does it serve? I am going to do a cat back duel exhaust system and I am curious about this mod. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

It removes the stock pre-cats, will make your exhaust louder, deeper, and more free-flowing.

Terry, the y pipe is an exhaust upgrade that replaces the first two cats.It will up the horsepower some. Ron

Is it a bolt on mod? I live in California, I have to have all 4 cats. So in theory would I be able to put on a Y-pipe, and when I have to take the trac in for smog, put the stock back on and pass?

Aaron, Yes, but constantly taking it on and off would be a pain....

Do the CA inspection people even know that the ST has pre cats???



Andrew I believe the numbers where 8-10 HP...

I know Wayne did dyno testing with it...

Does the y-pipe make the engine light come on if it eliminates the cats? What brand and how much did it costs?

It shouldnt make the CEL come on cause it still has places for the O2 sensors.
