After owning my 05 Silver Birch ST for 11 months, finally got my first door ding. Mostly superficial paint I think, but couldn't just rub off with fingers or material. Any suggestions on what's best to remove it, like maybe some rubbing compound or something?

Ken, gal at Napa told me she always tries polishing compound first (much eaiser on the paint) then if need be, just a touch of RC. My buddy just used a dent extracter suction doo hicky on his evolution and it worked very well, although the dent was big enough (1") around to pop right out. Im sure there's something specific for it but the polishing compound worked for me.

Well I had my car for less than a week and have parked away from everyone, thinking I benefit from the exercise and keep my car from getting dinged up. Yesterday washing I found a ding by the left wheel well. I guess you might as well just park on the front row at Walmart and the mall. I haven't figured out why people like to park way out from eveyone right next to where you are parked. I think they must think you're probably snobby or something. Now when folks take up 2 or more parking spaces-I hope they get dinged-that is completely selfish in my opinion.

I take up 4 spaces when I can when visiting WalMart, or the mall, but I always park at the furthest possible spot, so there's curb on one side. I also get it at an angle across all 4. But of course I've gotten a few dings since they started repaving one of the parking lots at school and all the lots are always full now. Only way to avoid dings is not to drive it anywhere, and right now that's what I'm doing.

Meguiars makes a product called body scrub and it works well and is a bit less abrasive than polishing compound. Good luck!

I am not sure why it took you so long to get your first door ding.

When you next get a new vehicle I would suggest you try a little harder. With a little diligent effort, I am certain you can manage to acuire a door ding within a month or two at most.
