Bud,

I went to the "Cheesburger Bobbies" off Medlock Bridge my last trip to Atlanta. At least I think that was the name of it. Their sweet potato fries are KILLER!

Actually, a little better, overall, than "Five Guys", especially since they have whole wheat buns as a option, and as I said, sweet potato fries.

All,

Regarding the question: "what is Five Guys like?"

Five Guys" is more like a traditional mom and pop burger place that only serves burgers, or I should say is famous for burgers. You walk in. There are a few different types (cheese, or bacon cheese), and a couple of different sizes (1/3 lb, 1/4 lb), and a ton of different toppings (sauteed onions, mushrooms, and the others you would expect), and you order your size, your toppings, and fries, and a drink. You get a number, and you eat free, supplied peanuts that you shell yourself while waiting.

When your number is called, you go up, grab your brown sack, take it back and sit and eat, or take it out the door.

Not much to the experience other than that. It's about the food.

And, yes, there is vinegar for the fries. A requirement for any establishment that serves fresh-cut french fries...which these are.

Sorry if I misrepresented the experience...have only been once.

Five Guys is much better than any fast food joint, but nothing worthing driving out of your way for.

Les, maybe you're sick of them because they're right across the street? How do you feel about Firehouse Subs? :cheeky:

Fire House subs are the bomb!

i also like What-A-Burger but they aren't around here.

I have to go to Ft Walton Beach....

I'm also amazed by the places they find on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives...

Belly Bombers... aka: White Castle... Used to eat them like crazy in my younger years... Now I eat some and 30 minutes later I am kicking myself asking why the hell I did that...

Overrated and overpriced, imo. I tried it twice, just to feel like I was giving it a fair shot. I was disappointed both times. I was comparing it to a place in Athens, GA though called Clocked. It never really stood a chance anyway.

Yeah, its better than fast food places but I felt like I could have had a steak for the price of a burger and 5 fist fulls of fries.

And no burger, NONE, beats my burgers, on my grill, made MY way.

Caymen, there's the problem right there. You don't like vinegar??! Say it ain't so!

I could drink vinegar straight, and occasionally do.

Acetic acid FTW.

:eek:fftopic:

I'm indifferent about vinegar on fries--but vinegar (especially flavored vinegar, like the garlic vinegars some places sell) on sliced cucumbers is incredible!

If you ever want a kid to eat cucumbers, try doing it this way. If you can get them to at least try one, odds are they'll then eat a whole lot more.

:back2topic:

Bill, I love pickled cucumbers like that, but I absolutely hate pickles. I think its more the dill in there than anything. Cucumbers in vineagar are great. I might have to try pickling in some flavord vineagar though. I usually just use white vineagar, some onions and pepper.

I think it is because I used to develop X-Ray film out on the road during my tech days and the smell of the chemicals would permiate my skin. One of the chemicals used in developing film?

Acedic Acid.

The smell of vinegar alone will make me gag. Up to the point if I am out somewhere eating a meal and someone near to me puts vinegar on their food, I move to another table or leave the place.

Never let the enemy know your vulnerablilties...

Look for fragile bottles of Vinegar to be shipped to you via USPS by your

enemies!....we know who they are....:bwahaha:

Tom, me too. No vineger for me. I hate it when someone serves up cucumbers that way. A good cucumber needs nothing on it.

None of those in Texas. I do wish more places had sweet potato fries. They are awesome and I pretty much hate sweet potatoes in any other form.

On the sweet potato topic switch - my fiancee and I go to a restaurant in Stone Mountain Park quite frequently. Its quite a drive, but well worth it. Its called Ms. Katie's Sideboard. The appetizer is a major reason why, and its free, and as much as you can eat. They give you a platter full of sweet potato fries, fried onion "chips" (don't quite know what to call them), and fried pickles (better than sweet potato fries). And hot buns that they literally throw to you directly out of the oven. And the meals are incredible, if you like southern cooking (how could you not?).

I bring it up because I'm really excited about going tomorrow...and somebody mentioned sweet potato fries.

Never had saurkraut balls. Sounds amazing. I'll try to find them on my way through PA next week. Or I'll try my hand at making them soon.
