The cut-backs in the military are just a part of the overall problem of jobs leaving the US. We have continue to lose hundreds of great-paying jobs in Missouri each month due to manufacturing leaving.
I am normally an advocate of free enterprise / free economy, but I am starting to think that we need some basic level of protectionism for our jobs to help them remain competitive. Maybe a small tariff on inported manufactured goods would not be a bad thing to help level the playing field? (Ironically--just like in the automotive industry: consumers are able to buy better quality products for less money when they buy imported goods.)
Cuts in the military will soon bite us in the butt. What happens when North Korea starts some more serious stuff very soon and we have to fight two wars? Then, on top of that, we have something else break out in Europe, and the US borders become hotter?
