You do know that air has 78% nitrogen in it, right?

You are paying for the last 20% nitrogen, and I doubt that a small amount like that would help.

The only benefit I see is that nitrogen is larger than oxygen and won't leak out quite as fast through the pores in the tires and wheels, but still, it's already 78% nitrogen.

Used to work with a bunch of dirt bike racers and they would use nitrogen because they got it from the weld shop that we all worked at cheap. They never noticed any difference.

You also know that air is 19.5% to 21.5% oxygen, right? You also know that air also includes moisture. You do know what happens when oxygen and moisture interact with matter?

I use Nitrogen. I do not use air in my tires.

Just Jimmy says:
You can't mix air and Nitro -

you can't run some tires with Nitro and some with air

in both these cases, the vehicle will pull to one side

Says who? The guys that you pay to fill your tires with nitrogen I bet.

I've said it before, I will say it again, two tires filled to the same PSI; one with air, the other with nitrogen, should drive exactly the same. Mixing and matching shouldn't hurt the tire either, but will negate the nitro "benefits".

TJR,

When doing research, I read this on several sites. I would agree with you however. Just don't know enough about it to know it if it's true or not.

A number of things could be reducing your GPM's

* Driving at 75 MPH

* Type of gas you buy

* Driving with A/C or windows down

* Not using a bed cover

* Led Footing or hard breaking

* Figuring your GPM's by the computer (could be reading lower...may try to figure by actual gallons you fill each fill-up and miles driven)

* Many of us including myself get the best mileage at this speed. Many discussion have confirmed this.

* Type of gas - agree.

* A/C or windows - I believe Mythbusters proved a/c was efficient (depends which way your leaning).

* Not using a bed cover - Again Mythbusters proved the bed cover to not help.

* Led footing or hard breaking - I agree with.

* GPM's by the computer - my guess would be that it reads better than actual (rather than worse), but this is just my opinion.

07 V8 Ltd 4x4, Tonneau cover, 87 octane, 35 miles each way per day - interstate, 72 mph, on cruise, 9000 miles on odo, a/c on almost always, no windows open, 36psig in tires (michelin), best I ever get is 18.5 mpg per display, 405 miles on display at fillup. Oh, maybe it's the mp3's?

edit: Does the Traction Control have an affect on mpg? Doubt it, but just asking.

Be glad you are not at 4500-4800 ft, drive 9 miles to work, and go through 21 redlights in that 9 miles (one way). I'm averaging around 14mpg doing it daily.

I ran up to Idaho Falls and back a few weeks ago - averaged 21.2mpg for the round trip running around 75.

The thing that is killing me is the 3.55's, 4x4, and doing so much city driving. It is really making me think of changing and going to 3.73's. My city driving to highway driving ratio is overwhelming anymore, so it would still pay to gain in the city and lose on highway. Plus, I could stand to have a little more lower torque. It's a shame they won't put the 3.73's as an option on the V8's.

Curious as to how "Hard Braking" affects gas mileage?

It's not the braking, it's the lost opportunity to spend time coasting. Basically, if you can let off earlier and spend more time coasting, you burn less gas.

As for a/c, I suppose it depends on the aerodynamics of the individual vehicle, but I know the Infiniti G35 SC manual says you get better mileage with the windows up and a/c on (highway driving I assume).

Kevin,

Getting output errors means you entered some data wrong and it can not compute it....

I will look at your log when I get home...

Quote from Just Jimmy

"DoctorCAD

Are you a CAD guy (AutoCAD)?

The name made me curious"

Yes, I got the name way back when I was a CAD team leader for 35 AutoCAD users at an engineering firm in Pittsburgh, always fixing peoples programs. I kept the name because I like it. I have since moved on to become an engineer, but still use AutoCAD's 3D Inventor on a daily basis.

Doctor CAD,

Nice to know you. I've been using AutoCAD for 27 years - kinda the old CAD Guy in South Florida. Been teaching it at a local Community College for 18 years as a second job.

LOVE the program. I now manage 22 tech staff as my full time job but still try to keep current with AutoCAD. Don't use Inventor - just AutoCAD (07 at school - 08 as a hobby).

Once you go 3D, you will never go back!

I do design work for an electrical equipment company, big stuff, high voltages and amperages. We do mostly sheet metal parts and assemblies. We need to ensure clearances and insulation around live parts, and 3D easily does that.

Sorry to break off topic.

We now return you to your regurally scheduled forum.
