Hard water stains

I know this must have been asked already and I did do a search but didn't find a answer.

We have two Sport Tracs. What do you use to clean the hard water drips coming from the tie downs.

Try clay bar first, if that doesn't work then polishing compound (by hand).

On the other hand, if it turns out to be acid rain marks then you're SOL.

I had dark stains below the tiedowns on both my '01 and now my '10 STs. I use cleaner wax to remove them. I was told that the stains are coming from some type of stuff used to detail the vehicles...like Armor-All, etc. Of course, my stains are easy to remove....not etched in the finish or anything like that. Has anyone tried to use a wax remover or something similar?
